DESCRIPTION: Unpacks the files needed to install a utility that corrects
two types of boot sector issues exhibited on hard drives with multiple
partitions. The utility is for both FAT16 and FAT32 file systems on
the affected Deskpro models mentioned above operating in the Microsoft
Windows 95 or Windows 98 environments.
The utility:
- Corrects drive compression on hard drives with multiple
partitions with identical volume serial numbers resulting
in drive lettering issues.
- Corrects issues with quick formatting extended partitions
in DOS mode on hard drives larger than 8 GB.
Compaq recommends installing this utility before performing a quick format
command.
HOW TO USE:
1. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive.
The file downloaded is a self-extracting executable with a filename
based on the SoftPaq Number above.
2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.
Entering "Y" to confirm the unpacking of files into the download directory.
3. After the files have been unpacked, you may delete the
self-extracting file downloaded in step 1.
4. To run the utility, run FIXBOOT2.EXE.
5. After the installation is completed, you may delete the directory
created in step 2 if you wish.
