DESCRIPTION: Creates a copy of the driver diskette version 1.10 for
the Compaq Microcom 420 56K PC Card Fax Modem. The diskette contains
the modem driver file and files needed to install the Country Select
Utility, which configures the Compaq Microcom 420 Modem for use with
public telephone networks in selected countries.
This version is provided here as a convenience for customers who may
need to restore this modem software for any reason, and for customers
who upgrade their Compaq Microcom 420 56K PC Card Fax Modem (K56flex
Version) to include support for the new ITU Standard V.90 firmware
(see the Compaq Website for the Firmware Upgrade Utility).
ENHANCEMENTS:
Contains the new INF file that provides support for V.90 firmware
HOW TO USE:
1. Obtain a formatted 1.44-MB diskette.
2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change
to that directory. The file that is downloaded is an executable
with a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above.
3. From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file
and follow the on-screen instructions. You will be prompted to
insert the formatted diskette in a drive to create the diskette.
4. After the diskette has been created, you may delete the SoftPaq
file downloaded in step 2.
5. Install the modem in the computer according to the instructions
in the Quick Install Guide that came with the modem. When
prompted for the modem driver file, enter the path to the
diskette drive that contains the driver diskette created in
step 3 above.
Note: If you are re-installing the modem after a V.90 firmware
upgrade, please follow the instructions that came with the
firmware upgrade utility SoftPaq (available on the Compaq
Website).
6. To install the Country Select Utility program, follow the
instructions below for your operating system to run the setup
program from the diskette:
- For Windows 95/98 or Windows NT 4.0, run SETUP32.EXE
- For Windows 3.1, run \WIN31\SETUP.EXE
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
