DESCRIPTION: Unpacks the files necessary to upgrade the firmware and drivers for the
multi-port digital modem and ISDN adapter on a Compaq Remote Access Server 5601.

Enhancements/Fixes:

  - V.90 Modem Support
   New features include a modem firmware upgrade to support the new industry standard
   V.90 modem and K56Flex protocols for 56K modem operation. The enhanced firmware
   provides the fastest modem connections possible when used with V.90-compliant modems.

 - Fractional T1 Support Over PRI or Robbed-Bit
   These features allow the RAS server to use line interfaces configured with less than
   the maximum number of configured bearer channels. This can substantially reduce the
   monthly cost of the WAN connection for sites with smaller bandwidth requirements.

 - Called Party Number Service Selection Support (CPNSS)
   CPNSS allows incoming ISDN calls with "voice bearer coding" to be answered as digital
   synchronous PPP sessions instead of automatically connecting them to modems. This
   feature can reduce telephone line charges in areas where voice calls are tariffed at
   a lower rate than data calls. Additionally, digital calls on non-ISDN (T1 robbed-bit)
   spans are supported. Previously these were all treated as modem calls.

Extensibility via Third-Party Software

   Like all Windows NT-based servers, the Compaq Remote Access Server line is extensible
   via third-party software.

   * IMPORTANT NOTE:                                                                         *
   *                                                                                         *
   * Technical Support for all third-party applications not supplied by Compaq should *
   * be obtained by contacting the vendor of that software. Compaq cannot provide technical *
   * support for third-party applications that are not preinstalled by the factory on your *
   * Remote Access Server.                                                                   *

Enhancing System Security

   Security Dynamics SecurID Support

     The new WAN drivers in this Softpaq provide support for Security Dynamics ACE/Server
     version 3.3.3 and the ACE/Agent for NT. All token types and SecurID modes are
     supported, including "new pin" and "next tokencode."

     Due to architectural limitations, SecurID will not function in the following scenarios:

     1. SecurID over synchronous ISDN connections. SecurID will function only over
         asynchronous analog connections.
     2. Dial-on-demand connections. PAP and CHAP authentication protocols do not support
         the additional information required by the SecurID authentication process.
     3. SecurId negotiation during the establishment of VPN tunnels.

     To take advantage of SecurId support, the third party application, SecurID,
     is required. This software is not supplied with your server and must be purchased
     separately through Security Dynamics.

COM Port Support

     The addition of COM ports to the Compaq Remote Access Server line allows for a variety
     of third-party applications to be added to the server. For example:

     - Modem Pooling Software

       Modem Pooling Software provides a LAN or remote user with convenient access to dial-out
       modems from their desktop. Allowing users to use modems across the network saves the
       costs of provisioning an analog line to each desktop and installing a modem in each
       client PC.

     - Outbound Fax Applications

       Network fax applications allow users to send faxes straight from their desktops without
       the need for local modems or analog phone lines.

HOW TO USE THIS SOFTPAQ:
