DESCRIPTION:  The Options ROMPaq diskettes allow a user to
upgrade the ROM Firmware images for Compaq System product Options.  The
Options ROMPaq consists of eight (5) diskettes:

	Disk 1 - Options ROMpaq Firmware Upgrade Diskette for the 
		 Compaq SMART and SMART-2 SCSI Array Controllers and 
		 The Compaq Fibre Array Controller

	Disk 2 - Options ROMpaq Firmware Upgrade Diskette for 
		 Compaq Hard Drives

	Disk 3 - Options ROMpaq Firmware Upgrade Diskette for 
		 Compaq Additional Hard Drives

	Disk 4 - Options ROMpaq Firmware Upgrade Diskette for 
		 Compaq Extra Hard Drives

	Disk 5 - Options ROMpaq Firmware Upgrade Diskette for 
		 Compaq SCSI DAT Drives and SCSI Tape Drives

This release of Options ROMPaq does not contain support for upgrading hard drives
in a Compaq Fibre Array System.

Enhancements/Fixes:
- Upgraded SMART-2 Controller firmware from Version 2.08 to 2.14 to correct
  the following potential issues:

	- Changed Monitor and Performance tests that run after a hot plug
          to correct false threshold violations resulting in a pre-failure event 
	  on WDExxxx hard drives
	- Reset Monitor and Performance factory seek time and false threshold exceeded 
	  flag on WDExxxx hard drives.
	- Fixed a problem with 2.08 firmware on SMART-2SL Controller following a brief 
          power cycle causing the following false Array Accelerator POST error 
	  messages:

		1792-Slot x Drive Array - Valid data found in Array Accelerator
                                          Data will automatically be written to 
					  Drive Array.

		1797-Slot x Drive Array - Array Accelerator Read Error Occurred
					  Array Accelerator disabled.

	- Changed Flash algorithm to help prevent some intermittent ROM flash
          failures on the SMART-2 family of controllers.

- Upgrade for DCHS0xx Drives from 5656 to 5858 to prevent false pre-failure notification
  by Compaq Insight Manager
- Upgrade for WDE9100 drives from 1.35 to 1.40 to prevent slow seek time problems that
  result in false pre-failure noitification by Compaq Insight Manager
- Upgrade for WDExxxx drives from 1.60 to 1.70 to prevent slow seek time problems that
  result in false pre-failure noitification by Compaq Insight Manager
- Upgrade for MAX3xxx drives from 0813 to 0814 to enhance defect management
- Upgrade for ST34501W drives from AF03 to AF04 to enable drive Write-Cache.

  NOTE:   Multiple firmware versions exist for these products. This
          ROMpaq utility will identify and upgrade the correct firmware to the
          specific OEM tape hardware product.

HOW TO USE:

1. Obtain five (5) formatted 1.44-MB diskettes.

2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change 
to that directory.  The file that is downloaded is an executable with 
a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above.

3. From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file 
and follow the on-screen instructions.  You will be prompted to 
insert the formatted diskettes in a drive to create the diskettes.

4. After the diskettes have been created, you may delete the  
SoftPaq file downloaded in step 2.

5. The Options ROMPaq diskettes are self-booting diskettes.  Place each
ROMPaq diskette into your drive A: diskette drive and power cycle your
system to begin updating the appropriate components.
