             NOTE:  To determine if your notebook contains the affected 
                    hard drive and requires this update:
                      - Select Start, Settings, Control Panel, 
                      - Double-click the Compaq Diagnostics icon
                      - After Diagnostics starts, select the Test tab
                      - Select the + sign by Storage
                      - Select the + sign by Hard Drives
                      - Verify that Hard Drive 1 is Integral Peripherals
                      - Double-click the Hard Drive 1 entry 
                      - Check the value for Firmware Revision
                      - If the Firmware Revision is not "MNTN01", 
                        perform the update 
                        (for example, "MNTK1D00" needs this update)

DESCRIPTION:  Creates a bootable diskette which updates the hard drive firmware 
in affected Presario 1220 and 1220ES models (see PRODUCTS AFFECTED).

Enhancements/Fixes:
 - Resolves a performance issue by insuring that all the buffer memory used by 
   the hard drive for variable space is fully initialized after coming out of 
   Standby.

HOW TO USE:

1. Obtain a formatted 1.44-MB diskette.

2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change 
to that directory.  The file that is downloaded is an executable with 
a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above.

3. From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file 
and follow the on-screen instructions.  You will be prompted to 
insert the formatted diskette in a drive to create the diskette.

4. After the diskette has been created, you may delete the  
SoftPaq file downloaded in step 2.

5. To install the upgrade, shutdown and power off the computer.  Then restart with 
the created diskette in drive A:, allowing the computer to boot from the diskette.
The upgrade will be applied automatically.  

6. Shutdown, remove the diskette, and power up again for the changes to take effect.
