DESCRIPTION: Unpacks all files needed to apply the following three updates,
which were previously available only in separate SoftPaqs. These updates can
be installed from folders created in the download directory, or from optional
installation diskettes. Compaq recommends installing them in the order given.
1. Deskpro Windows 95 INF Update for PCI Controllers, Version 1.10 Rev A
2. Deskpro Windows 95 Enhancements, Version 1.02 Rev A
3. Deskpro Registry Updates for Windows 95, Version 2.20 Rev C
1. Deskpro Windows 95 INF Update for PCI Controllers, Version 1.10 Rev A
(Previously available in SoftPaq SP6434)
Installs Compaq PCI IDE Controller Settings for Windows 95, which updates
the Windows 95 INF files and registry database. When Windows 95 restarts,
it redetects PCI controllers based on the updated information. This update
allows Windows 95 to correctly detect and configure the following PCI Bus
Master IDE Controllers:
- Intel 82371SB PiiX3
- Intel 82371AB PiiX4
- Intel 82371EB PiiX4E
- VIA Tech
IMPORTANT! This update MUST be run right after Windows 95 is installed
and before any other SoftPaqs are applied. During the redetection process,
whenever the "Update Device Driver Wizard" and "System Settings Change"
dialogs are displayed, accept the default selections. At the end of the
installation, when prompted to restart the computer now or later, restart
the computer immediately.
Enhancements/Fixes:
- Adds support for PiiX4E chipset with Windows 95 Version OSR 2.1 and later.
2. Deskpro Windows 95 Enhancements, Version 1.02 Rev A
(Previously available in SoftPaq SP4355)
Installs Compaq wallpaper, the Compaq logo, and Compaq support information for
Windows 95. Updates some .INF files to allow Windows 95 to detect certain
devices without a driver as Other detected devices.
1) Change to the 95CFG directory. Execute the SETUP.EXE and follow the
on-screen Instructions to install the software.
2) Open the Display Properties, select Background tab, then select Compaq
bitmap from the Wallpaper section. Hit OK to install the Compaq wallpaper.
3) Open the System Properties, select Device Manager tab. Click on the '?'
icon named 'Other Devices'.
- Remove any of the following devices:
- Bus ACPI PCD Device
- PCI Universal Serial Bus
- Press the OK button to confirm
4) Close all the active windows and restart the computer. Windows 95 will
detect and install drivers.
Enhancements/Fixes:
- Fixed the Compaq.inf file.
- The chip ID 7112 is for the Intel chip, not VIA Tech.
- Added a chip ID of 7020 to support Deskpro 2000 Pentium Pro models.
3. Deskpro Registry Updates for Windows 95, Version 2.20 Rev C
(Previously available in SoftPaq SP6361)
Installs updates, including Windows 95 registry updates, which provide the following
features depending on which computer model is detected:
- Enable DMA support for IDE hard drives
- Enable DDC monitor support
- Disable CD polling
- Hide the non-functional "Suspend" menu item in the Start menu
- Register any real-mode CD ROM drivers to be loaded in MS-DOS mode (if they exist)
Enhancements/Fixes:
- Clear "When powered by AC power" checkbox in Power Applet
- Fix problem with SETUP.ISS silent mode in InstallShield preinstall
- Remove obsolete Desktop Management "Installed" registry update
- Add DMA enable support for Deskpro EP, SB, and EN Series
HOW TO USE:
1. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive.
The file downloaded is a self-extracting executable with a filename
based on the SoftPaq Number above.
2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.
Entering "Y" to confirm the unpacking of files creates a new directory
folder named 95UPG in the download directory. All files are unpacked
into subfolders within this newly created directory.
To create the three optional installation diskettes, run MAKEDISK.BAT and
follow on-screen instructions.
3. To install each update, run SETUP.EXE from the optional installation
diskettes or from the following folders created in step 2:
\95UPG\DISK1\ Deskpro Windows 95 INF Update for PCI Controllers
\95UPG\DISK2\95CFG\ Deskpro Windows 95 Enhancements
\95UPG\DISK3\ Deskpro Registry Updates for Windows 95
Follow the on-screen instructions.
5. After the installation is completed, you may delete the directory 95UPG
created in step 2 if you wish.
