DESCRIPTION: Creates a diskette that can be used to update the audio driver
on ONLY the specific Presario 42xx models mentioned above.
IMPORTANT: It may be necessary to run this update from Safe Mode, especially if
the Novell Client32 driver is already installed (see the HOW TO USE section below).
Enhancements/Fixes:
- Fixes the problem where the computer locks up when Novell Client32 software is
being used. Without this update, the audio driver conflicts with the driver for
Novell Client32.
- Fixes other minor issues.
HOW TO USE:
1. Obtain a formatted 1.44-MB diskette.
2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change
to that directory. The file that is downloaded is an executable with
a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above.
3. From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file
and follow the on-screen instructions. You will be prompted to
insert the formatted diskette in a drive to create the diskette.
4. After the diskette has been created, you may delete the
SoftPaq file downloaded in step 2.
5. To avoid any potential driver conflict, particularly with the Novell
Client32 driver, enter Safe Mode by restarting the computer and holding down
the F8 key when the Compaq logo appears and the cursor moves to the upper right
corner of the screen. Choose the Safe Mode option from the menu.
6. Insert the created diskette into the A: drive, select Start, then Run,
and then enter:
a:\uninstal.exe
This uninstalls the audio driver, using a special program on the diskette.
7. When the uninstall is complete, remove the diskette and restart the computer.
8. During startup, Windows 95 Plug and Play recognizes that it needs to reinstall
the audio driver but will not find it on the hard drive. Select "Other Location"
and re-insert the driver diskette in the A: drive. Type "a:\" if necessary. When
the update is complete, remove the diskette and restart the computer again when
prompted.
9. The updated audio driver is now in effect.
