          CAUTION:  Applying this firmware upgrade to DVD drives other than 
                    the DVD drive that comes standard on the Presario 4660 
                    may render your computer useless.
                    To determine if your machine has the affected DVD drive:
                       - Select the Windows 95 Start button.
                       - Select Settings, then Control Panel.
                       - Double-click the System icon.
                       - Select the Device Manager tab.
                       - Double-click the CDROM icon. 
                       - "Compaq DVD-ROM SR-8582" should display.

DESCRIPTION:  Creates a bootable diskette that can be used to upgrade the DVD drive 
firmware in ONLY the Presario 4660.

Enhancements/Fixes:
 - Corrects problems with this specific DVD drive that can cause the computer to 
   lock up.

HOW TO USE:

1. Obtain a formatted 1.44-MB diskette.

2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change 
to that directory.  The file that is downloaded is an executable with 
a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above.

3. From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file 
and follow the on-screen instructions.  You will be prompted to 
insert the formatted diskette in a drive to create the diskette.

4. After the diskette has been created, you may delete the  
SoftPaq file downloaded in step 2.

5. With the created firmware upgrade diskette in drive A:, restart the 
computer, allowing the system to boot from the diskette.  The process to 
upgrade the DVD drive firmware starts automatically.  Follow any 
on-screen prompts.

DO NOT TURN OFF THE COMPUTER DURING THE UPGRADE PROCESS!

6. When the upgrade is completed, the A:\ prompt displays.  
Remove the diskette and reboot for the changes to be in effect.
