PREREQUISITE:  Compaq QuickRestore CD that is shipped with the computer

DESCRIPTION:  Creates a diskette containing a utility that fixes a problem 
that can occur on the Presario models mentioned above where the following 
error message displays when trying to start the Phone Center or Address Book:

    "Unable to initialize DAO/Jet db engine"

This error is caused when the installation of certain third-party programs 
causes the file MFC42.DLL to be replaced with an alternate version. 
Phone Center requires the version of MFC42.DLL that came originally installed 
on these Presario models.  The utility in this Softpaq restores the file 
MFC42.DLL from the Quick Restore CD that came with the computer to the directory 
C:\COMPAQ\CPQPHONE in order to eliminate this error. 

CAUTION:  Running this utility as instructed below overwrites ONLY the file MFC42.DLL,
and does NOT overwrite all user data on the hard drive.  However, booting from the 
QuickRestore CD and following the option to restore the hard drive DOES return the 
hard drive to its original factory condition, effectively deleting all user data.
Therefore, do NOT boot from the QuickRestore CD or select the option to restore the 
hard drive when using this SoftPaq. 

HOW TO USE:

1. Obtain a formatted 1.44-MB diskette. 

2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change 
to that directory.  The file that is downloaded is an executable with 
a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above.

3. From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file 
and follow the on-screen instructions.  You will be prompted to 
insert the formatted diskette in a drive to create the diskette.

4. After the diskette has been created, you may delete the  
SoftPaq file downloaded in step 2.

5. To install the update, insert the QuickRestore CD into the CD-ROM drive.
		*DO NOT BOOT FROM THE QUICKRESTORE CD*
Then run SETUP.EXE from the created diskette to copy the original file MFC42.DLL 
from the QuickRestore CD to the hard drive directory C:\COMPAQ\CPQPHONE.  
For example, with the diskette in drive A, select Start, select Run, then enter:

    a:\setup

6. Follow the on-screen instructions provided by the installation program.

7. When the installation is completed, remove the diskette and the QuickRestore 
CD and restart the computer for the changes to take effect.
