SOFTPAQ NUMBER: SP5785
PART NUMBER: N/A
FILE NAME: CPQY2K.EXE
TITLE: Deskpro/ProLinea Year 2000 ROM Check
VERSION: 1.1
LANGUAGE: English
CATEGORY: Desktops/Software Solutions
PRODUCTS AFFECTED: All Compaq Deskpro and Prolinea models
OPERATING SYSTEM: N/A
EFFECTIVE DATE: 15 January, 1998
ELECTRONIC DISTRIBUTION ALLOWED: Yes
SOFTPAQ UTILITY VERSION: 3.x
SUPERSEDES: SP4361
DESCRIPTION: Unpacks the utility CPQY2K.EXE, which checks for the ROM family
and ROM date of Deskpro and Prolinea computers. It compares this information
with the COMPAQ YEAR 2000 READY list. If the computer model with that ROM family
and ROM date is not on the list, the utility notifies the user of a SoftPaq number
containing the minimum acceptable ROM version certified to handle the Year 2000.
The user can then obtain that SoftPaq, or a SoftPaq containing a more recent
version of the ROM, from any Compaq online service, including www.compaq.com.
The user can then upgrade the System ROM.
This utility eliminates the need for a user to run Setup to determine the ROM date
and then look up the required SoftPaq number in the White Paper referenced below.
This utility does not take the place of other "Year 2000 Ready"
programs that manually manipulate the time and date to verify if the
computer is Year 2000 Ready or not.
For more information about Compaq products and the Year 2000 see
the White Paper "Preparing for the Year 2000" on the Compaq web site at:
www.compaq.com/support/techpubs/whitepapers/index.html
HOW TO USE:
1. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change
to that directory. The file that is downloaded is a self-extracting
executable with a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above.
2. From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file
and follow the on-screen instructions to unpack the files.
The number of files to be created and total file size is displayed.
You will be given the chance to specify the target directory for
the files, or default to the download directory.
3. After the files have been created, you may delete the
self-extracting file downloaded in step 1.
4. To run the utility, execute CPQY2K.EXE.
