SOFTPAQ UTILITY VERSION: 3.1
SUPERSEDES: SP5215
DESCRIPTION:
Creates four diskettes:
- Two (2) diskette for Personal Computer Diagnostics Version 10.25 Rev D
- Two (2) diskettes for Computer Setup/VP Version 1.74 Rev A
These related utilities were formerly in two separate SoftPaqs.
For all products except the Deskpro EP Series, Computer Setup and PC Diagnostics
are both pre-installed on the Diagnostics Partition. The diskettes in this
SoftPaq can be used to update these utilities on the Diagnostics Partition or
to restore them if the Diagnostics Partition has been destroyed. Both utilities
can be run by pressing F10 during power-up or reboot when prompted in the lower
right corner of the screen on some models or when the cursor jumps to the
upper right corner of the screen on other models. Or they can be run
directly from these diskettes.
NOTE: For the Deskpro EP and SB Series only, Computer Setup/VP and Personal
Computer Diagnostics must be run from diskette.
Computer Setup/VP allows the user to configure security and power
management settings as well as system resources (DMA, IRQ, I/O Ports,
and Memory). It is specific to the Deskpro models mentioned above.
Personal Computer Diagnostics contains programs that can test and
inspect the state of the computer and its devices. It is used with the
Deskpro models mentioned above, as well as other Compaq desktops and
portables.
Enhancements/Fixes:
- For those products that no longer support a user partition, the option that
appears when running Setup from diskette that allows a user to install
Setup to the user partition is now disabled (gray).
- Adds support for 1998 product options and Configure-to-Order (CTO) options.
- Modifies Extended System Configuration Data (ESCD) to allow Setup to run
under Windows 3.1 protected mode.
- Adds new Plug-and-Play ISA user interface under Addin-Devices
- Add support to correctly identify DVD-ROM and DVD-RAM devices.
HOW TO USE:
1. Obtain four (4) formatted 1.44MB diskettes and place the first one
in one of your diskette drives.
2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive.
The file downloaded is a self-extracting executable with a filename
based on the SoftPaq Number above.
3. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.
Entering "Y" to confirm the unpacking of files creates a new directory
folder in the download directory. All files are unpacked into this
newly created directory.
4. To create the (4) diskettes run the MAKEDISK.BAT file and follow
the prompts.
You will be prompted to enter the additional diskettes.
Label them as follows:
First Diskette -- Personal Computer Diagnostics Version 10.25 Rev D "TEST" (Disk 1 of 2)
Second Diskette -- Personal Computer Diagnostics Version 10.25 Rev D "INSPECT" (Disk 2 of 2)
Third Diskette -- Computer Setup/VP Version 1.74 Rev A (Disk 1 of 2)
Fourth Diskette -- Computer Setup/VP Version 1.74 Rev A (Disk 2 of 2)
5. After the diskettes are created, you may delete the file downloaded
in step 2 if you wish.
IMPORTANT: If installing Computer Setup/VP to a new unpartitioned hard
drive, boot from the Diagnostics diskette (First diskette) and follow the
prompts to create a diagnostics partition. You will be prompted to insert
the Setup diskettes.

or to run it directly from the diskettes, boot from the Setup/VP diskette
(Third diskette) and follow the prompts.
7. To install or upgrade Personal Computer Diagnostics on the Diagnostics
Partition, boot from the Diagnostics diskette (first diskette) . From the
"Manage Diagnostics Partition" menu, select "Create" or "Update" partition
