or later (ROM Update diskette for System ROM date of 09/18/97 or later,
for example SoftPaq SP4191)

DESCRIPTION:  Unpacks a file that can be used to update the System ROM of 
Armada 7700 and 7300 Series notebooks to insure that the ESCD (Extended
Configuration System Data) area of the System ROM is updated to reflect 
system information needed for OSR1 and earlier releases of Windows 95.  
This patch is necessary to properly allocate resources.  PCMCIA cards may 
not get proper resource assignments without this update.  

This update is not needed for Armada 7700 or 7300 Series notebooks with the 
Compaq preinstalled version (OSR2) of Windows 95 or with a system ROM dated 
later than 06 July 97.  Use F10 to check the System ROM date.

HOW TO USE:

1. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change 
to that directory.  The file that is downloaded is a self-extracting
executable with a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above.

2. From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file 
and follow the on-screen instructions to unpack the files.
The number of files to be created and total file size is displayed.
You will be given the chance to specify the target directory for 
the files, or default to the download directory.

The following files should be created:
     CPQLITE.CPU
     README.TXT

3. After the files have been created, you may delete the  
self-extracting file downloaded in step 1.

4. Copy the CPQLITE.CPU file to an Armada 7700/7300 ROMPaq diskette containing 
a ROM image dated 9/18/97 or later (for example, SoftPaq SP4191 contains the 
ROMPaq dated 9/18/97).  CPQLITE.CPU replaces a file of the same name on the 
ROMPaq diskette.

5. Upgrade the System ROM with the modified ROMPaq diskette by booting from the 
diskette while the notebook is connected to A/C power.  Follow the directions 
supplied with the ROMPaq utility.
