DESCRIPTION: Creates a diskette to upgrade the keyboard/battery
controller firmware on Presario 1207, 1210, 1610, 1615, 1620, 1680,
and 1682 models only.
This upgrade changes the power-on sequencing when going from DisqPlay mode
to the ON state. DisqPlay mode allows a user to play a music CD without opening
the notebook and with a minimum of power consumption. This change prevents
the small probability of the system failing to power up on the first attempt.
This upgrade includes the fix from firmware version 0.55, which corrects a
problem, explained below, that occasionally caused the system to lock up when
IDLE mode was turned ON in F10 setup.
Problem:
With IDLE mode turned ON, the processor stops each time the operating
system determines it can go idle to conserve power. The problem was that
the IDLE call was sometimes made in the middle of a request to the Keyboard
Controller for battery gauge information. The Keyboard Controller would
timout and abort the operation before the processor started again to
finish the command.
Fix:
The length of time before a timeout occurs was increased for requests
to the Keyboard Controller.
HOW TO USE:
1. Obtain a formatted 1.44-MB diskette.
2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change
to that directory. The file that is downloaded is an executable with
a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above.
3. From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file
and follow the on-screen instructions. You will be prompted to
insert the formatted diskette in a drive to create the diskette.
4. After the diskette has been created, you may delete the
SoftPaq file downloaded in step 2.
5. Turn off the computer.
6. Make sure that the AC adapter is plugged in and that the AC adapter
icon is displayed on the status display.
7. Insert the created diskette and turn the computer on.
8. The computer boots from the diskette and a batch file applies the update.
Follow the on-screen prompts.
9. After the update has finished, the computer will turn itself off.
Remove the diskette and turn the computer on again. The updated
firmware will be in effect.
