DESCRIPTION: Unpacks the files needed to install OS/2 audio
drivers for the Compaq ESS 1868 Audio Controller used in the above-
referenced Deskpro 4000/6000 models. Optionally allows a driver
diskette to be created.
Includes the file MIDIMAP.CFG that was missing in previous SoftPaq SP1765.
HOW TO USE:
1. Download the SoftPaq to a temporary, EMPTY directory on your
hard drive. The file downloaded is a self-extracting executable
with a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above.
2. From the download directory, execute the SoftPaq. When executed
with no parameters, files are extracted into the current directory.
To extract the files into a different directory, specify the complete
path of the directory as a parameter:
SPxxxx <path>
Enter "Y" to confirm and files are unpacked into the download
directory or the directory specified. A subdirectory is also
created containing ESS driver files.
3. After the files have been created, you may delete the
self-extracting file downloaded in step 1.
4. The driver may be installed directly from the files on the download
directory or a driver diskette can be created.
To create a driver diskette, from a DOS window run MAKEDISK.BAT.
For detailed installation instructions, refer to RELEASE.TXT.
To install the driver, run the downloaded file EINSTALL.EXE.
For example, from an OS/2 full-screen or OS/2 window session
type in the path to the download directory containing the files
extracted in step 2 followed by the command EINSTALL and press enter:
c:\<path>\einstall
Or if installing from a created diskette, enter:
a:\einstall
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
5. When the installation is complete, shut down and restart the system
for the new driver to take effect.
