DESCRIPTION: Creates a ROMpaq diskette to upgrade the system ROM to
Version 7.02 for LTE 5000 Series notebook computers.
This ROM version supersedes ROM version 5.50a. It provides:
- Year 2000 support
Reports the correct date when the century rollover occurs during runtime,
  providing NSTL compliance.
- Hard Drive Wear Protection
Incorporates a hard drive spin-down feature following 17 minutes of idle
hard drive time (no read/write activity), regardless of power management
settings to compensate for those LTE 5000 hard drives that lack the patrol
  seek feature.
- Intelligent Manageability Thermal Messaging
Adjusts the thermal reporting threshold so that the delivery of Thermal
Messages by the IM agent no longer occurs at premature or inappropriate times.
- Other enhancements and resolutions to customer issues in Power Management,
  Power-on-Password, and MPEG support

NOTE: The LTE 5000 computer should be undocked and connected to AC
power when upgrading the System ROM.

HOW TO USE:

1. Obtain a formatted 1.44-MB diskette.

2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change
to that directory. The file that is downloaded is an executable with
a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above.

3. From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file
and follow the on-screen instructions. You will be prompted to
insert the formatted diskette in a drive to create the diskette.

4. After the diskette has been created, you may delete the
SoftPaq file downloaded in step 2.

5. Run F10 Setup.
   a. Write down any custom settings, such as network or power
       management parameters.
   b. Check the System ROM Revision. Proceed with the upgrade if the
ROM Revision is less than 7.02.

6. Power down the computer.

7. If the computer is docked in a MultiBay Expansion Base, undock the
computer.

8. Connect to AC Power.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT TURN OFF POWER TO THE SYSTEM WHILE PERFORMING THIS
PROCEDURE!

9. To upgrade the ROM, insert the newly created Compaq LTE 5000 ROMPaq
Diskette in Drive A:, power up the computer, and follow the on-screen
instructions.

10. Ignore the warning message:
CMOS CHECKSUM INVALID - LOADING USER DEFAULTS
This is a normal result of a ROM upgrade. Allow the unit to reboot.

NOTE: If the computer is docked in the MultiBay Expansion Base (MEB) or
connected to a network, a warning notice about configuration defaults
may be displayed the first time Windows 95 is restarted. This is
because the ROM upgrade restores default values that Windows 95
automatically reconfigures. These messages should be ignored. They can
be avoided by restarting Windows 95 with the computer not docked in the
MEB and not connected to a network.

11. Run F10 Setup.
    a. Reset any custom settings, such as network or power
        management parameters, if necessary.
    b. Save and Exit.
