DESCRIPTION: Creates a Compaq UPS ROM Upgrade diskette that corrects the
following problem. After a successful shutdown occurs, the fourth LED on
the UPS may be RED when the UPS is plugged back into the AC wall outlet.
When the fourth LED is red, it is normally an indicator that the input line
voltage is low, which in this case is not true. Applying this upgrade corrects
the problem, which may appear with certain firmware versions when the
UPS agents were installed via SmartStart 3.3 or earlier.
HOW TO USE:
1. Obtain a formatted 1.44-MB diskette.
2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change
to that directory. The file that is downloaded is an executable with
a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above.
3. From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file
and follow the on-screen instructions. You will be prompted to
insert the formatted diskette in a drive to create the diskette.
4. After the diskette has been created, you may delete the
SoftPaq file downloaded in step 2.
5. To install from any server:
a) Safely shut down the server and boot from the diskette.
b) Enter the communications port number where the UPS serial cable is
attached. Press Continue.
c) The install program will detect if the UPS is a candidate for the firmware
upgrade or not, and the upgrade will be applied if appropriate.
6. To install from a workstation or laptop computer:
a) It is NOT necessary to shut down the server that the UPS is attached to
with the serial cable.
b) Close any power management software application (Lansafe, Failsafe, or
Compaq Power Management Software).
NOTE: For a NetWare server only, also unload LS3.NLM.
c) Disconnect the UPS serial cable from the server and attach it to the
workstation or laptop where the patch will be executed.
d) Boot the workstation or laptop with the diskette.
e) Enter the communications port number where the UPS serial cable is
attached. Press Continue.
f) The install program will detect if the UPS is a candidate for the
firmware upgrade or not, and the upgrade will be applied if appropriate.
