DESCRIPTION:

The Peripheral Adapter Support Software Diskette(SSD) is a collection
of VINES 6.0 and 7.0 software components which provide support
for Compaq products other than Network Interface Controllers.

Software Components:


     o Rev 1.01 : Remote Insight Board Driver for Banyan VINES 6.20(0) 
                  and above.

     o Rev 2.03 : Compaq SMART-2 (EISA / PCI) Array Controller driver
                  Supports Compaq SMART-2 Array family of controllers
                
     o Rev 1.02 : Compaq Additional Support for SMART-2 Array 
                  controller driver

     o Rev 1.10 : Compaq Wide-Ultra SCSI controller driver
                  Supports Integrated Compaq Wide-Ultra SCSI controller 
                  and Compaq Wide-Ultra SCSI controllers

     o Rev 1.20 : Compaq Enhanced IDE controller driver
                  Supports IDE/EIDE hard drives and EIDE CD-ROM 

     o Rev 2.01 : Compaq Wellness driver
                  Supports server Health monitoring features

     o Rev 1.00 : Banyan IDA, IDA-2, IAES & SMART SCSI Array controller 
                  driver

Utilities provided in this SSD :

         1) Rev 1.01 : RI Agent. 
            This runs as a daemon and interacts with the RIB Driver, 
            Health and  IDA Agents to send SNMP Traps to the Remote 
            Insight Board. Additional executable of RI Agent is  
            included which is compatible with Wellness driver v1.0
    
         2) Rev 1.02 : Health Agent. 
            This runs as a daemon and monitors the Correctable Memory 
            Errors, counts and informs the RI Agent to send an SNMP 
            Trap whenever a Correctable Memory Error occurs.  This agent
            interacts with Wellness driver and supports monitoring of 
            various server components and sends Mail Alert notification 
            whenever a status change is detected on any of the server 
            components. This feature will be available only if the Compaq 
            Wellness driver version 2.00 or above is installed in your 
            system.

            Additional executable for Health Agent is included which is
            compatible with Wellness driver version 1.0

         3) Rev 1.01 : IDA Agent. 
            This runs as a daemon and monitors the status of the Drive 
            Array configured on the server. It informs the RI Agent to 
            send an SNMP Trap in case there is any change in the status 
            of the logical, physical and spare drives. This agent interacts
            with IDA driver and SMART-2 driver and supports monitoring of
            drives connected to IDA or Compaq SMART-2 Array controller and 
            sends Mail Alert notification if a drive status change is 
            detected.

         4) Rev 1.0 :  RIVIEW. 
            This is a curses based utility which allows the user to 
            monitor the Drive Array and Correctable Memory status on 
            the server.

         5) Rev 1.0 :  RICONFIG. 
            This is a curses based utility which allows the user to 
            view and on-line configure the Remote Insight Board.

         6) Rev 1.04 : Compaq SMART-2 Configuration Display Utility.
            On-line utility to display SMART-2 Array family of controller
            information for Logical drives. 

            Run 'cpqs2' at Unix prompt. "cpqs2 -h" gives the available 
            options for the utility.

         7) Rev 1.00 : S.M.A.R.T (IDE/EIDE and SCSI) Agent.
            Supports monitoring of S.M.A.R.T capable SCSI and 
            IDE/EIDE drives connected to Compaq Wide Ultra SCSI 
            controller and Compaq Enhanced IDE controller respectively.

         8) Rev 1.00 : Compaq System Management Utility.
            Server based utilities which support : 
            Notification of network, storage and system health 
            failure events through Mail alerting mechanism,
            S.M.A.R.T support utilities
            Dynamic enable/disable of driver debug messages
            Menu option to launch existing utilities - 
               cpqs2, cpqnet, riview, riconfig
            View critical/correctable error log
            View/Save cpqnetlog and cpqs2 output
                   
            To launch Compaq System Management Utility, run 'cpqsm' 
            at Unix prompt.

            NOTE : The latest version of 'cpqnetlog' contained on "Ver 
                   2.04 LAN Adapter Support Software for VINES 6.0 and 
                   7.0" diskette is required to produce mail alerting for 
                   Redundant Backup Pair and Standalone network interface
                   controller failure/recoveries. For supported controller
                   names please refer to README.RBP file available on Ver 
                   2.04 LAN Adapter Support Software for VINES 6.0 and 7.0,  
                   Documentation Diskette.

			 
HOW TO USE:

1. Obtain two formatted 1.44 MB diskettes.

2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and 
   change to that directory. The file that is downloaded is 
   SP2714.EXE.

3. From that drive and directory, execute the SoftPaq file:
   SP2714 [ENTER]
   The following files should be created:
   275567US._01
   275567US._02
   QRST5.EXE
   SP2714.DOC

4. To create the diskettes, at the DOS prompt run :
   QRST5 [ENTER]
   Follow the on-screen instructions, which prompt you when to
   insert the  DOS formatted diskettes and allow you to print labels.

5. After the SSD diskettes are created, you may delete the downloaded 
   file SP2714.EXE and the other files it creates on the download
   directory if you wish.

6. Insert the documentation diskette(the second diskette) into drive A  
   and perform one of the following to view the installation 
   instructions :
   From DOS prompt enter "a:\readme"
				or
   Boot the system with the diskette in the drive A:
