DESCRIPTION:

The LAN  Adapter Support Software Diskette(SSD) is a collection
of VINES 6.0 and 7.0 software components which provide support
for Compaq Network Interface Controllers.

     o  Rev 1.0.0: Driver support for Compaq Netelligent 4/16 TR PCI UTP/STP
        and Compaq Netelligent 4/16 TR ISA UTP/STP controllers for 
        VINES 6.40(0) and above.                          

     o  Rev 2.0.2: Compaq NetFlex-3 Controller driver
        Fix for the kernel panic problem on Dell PowerEdge SP 5133-2 and 
        Driver support for National PHY Rev A 

 2.0  DEVICE DRIVERS INCLUDED IN SSD

     A device driver is software that the operating system uses to setup 
     and communicate with hardware devices. This SSD provides support 
     for the following Compaq specific hardware not supported in the 
     base operating system:
     
     Ethernet Controller Support:

     o  Rev 1.0.1: Compaq NetFlex L ENET Controller Driver.
              Integrated NetFlex-L ENET controller EISA based

HOW TO USE:

1. Obtain two formatted 1.44 MB diskettes.

2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and 
   change to that directory. The file that is downloaded is 
   SP2711.EXE.

3. From that drive and directory, execute the SoftPaq file:
   SP2711 [ENTER]
   The following files should be created:
      275569US._01
      275569US._02
      QRST5.EXE
      SP2711.DOC

4. To create the diskettes, at the DOS  prompt  run :
      QRST5 [ENTER]
   Follow the on-screen instructions, which prompt you when to
   insert the formatted diskettes and allow you to print labels.

5. After the SSD diskettes are created, you may delete the downloaded 
   file SP2711.EXE and the other files it creates on the download
   directory if you wish.

6. Insert the documentation diskette(the second diskette) into drive A  
   and perform one of the following to view the installation 
   instructions :

      From a DOS prompt enter "a:\readme"
        or
      Boot the system with the diskette in the drive A:
