DESCRIPTION: System ROM Version 5.50 provides an update to resolve
various LTE 5000 family issues. Compaq recommends that all LTE 5000
users upgrade to System ROM Version 5.50. This ROM version supersedes
ROM version 5.20a.

This SoftPaq creates the ROMPaq Firmware Upgrade Diskette for the Compaq
LTE 5000 Computer, which allows a user to upgrade the System ROM on any
LTE 5000 notebook computer to a Version 5.50 System ROM. Customers may
notice a nominal performance impact after upgrading to System ROM
Version 5.50; this impact will be most noticeable to customers using
graphic-intensive applications.

System ROM 5.50 Updates
-----------------------
1) Addresses intermittent lock-ups

2) Corrects PC Card top-slot recognition issues that occur under Windows NT Workstation 3.51 and 4.0
and possibly other operating systems while using enablers.

3) Addresses hard drive issues

4) Addresses date-change occurrences

When an LTE 5000 is left on between
11:59PM and 12:01AM during certain time periods the date may change to the
year 2096 or beyond. Specifically, this problem can occur during the
following date ranges:

October 20 - October 31
November 20 - November 30
December 20 - December 31

Should a date change occur, the change would most likely be visible to the
end user only following a reboot of the computer.

NOTE: The LTE 5000 computer should be undocked and connected to AC
power when upgrading the System ROM.

HOW TO USE:

1. Obtain a formatted 1.44 MB diskette.

2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change to
that directory. The file that is downloaded is SP2452.EXE.

3. From that drive and directory, execute the SoftPaq file:
    SP2452 [ENTER]
You will be prompted to place the formatted 1.44 MB diskette into a
diskette drive to create the diskette.

4. After the diskette is created, you may delete the downloaded file
SP2452.EXE if you wish.

5. Run F10 Setup.
     a. Write down any custom settings, such as network or power
         management parameters.
     b. Check the System ROM Revision. Proceed with the upgrade if the
ROM Revision is less than 5.50.

6. Power down the computer.

7. If the computer is docked in a MultiBay Expansion Base, undock the
computer.

8. Connect to AC Power.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT TURN OFF POWER TO THE SYSTEM WHILE PERFORMING THIS
PROCEDURE!

9. To upgrade the ROM, insert the newly created Compaq LTE 5000 ROMPaq
Diskette in Drive A:, power up the computer, and follow the on-screen
instructions.

10. Ignore the warning message:
CMOS CHECKSUM INVALID - LOADING USER DEFAULTS
This is a normal result of a ROM upgrade. Allow the unit to reboot.

11. Run F10 Setup.
      a. Reset any custom settings, such as network or power
          management parameters, if necessary.
      b. Save and Exit.

NOTE: If the computer is docked in the MultiBay Expansion Base (MEB) or
connected to a network, a warning notice about configuration defaults
may be displayed the first time Windows 95 is restarted. This is
because the ROM upgrade restores default values that Windows 95
automatically reconfigures. These messages should be ignored. They can
be avoided by restarting Windows 95 with the computer not docked in the
MEB and not connected to a network.
