DESCRIPTION:
This contains the files needed to install two Intel NICs as separate devices
under Windows NT 4.0:

 Intel PRO/100 VM Network Connection
               and 
 Intel PRO/100+ Alert on LAN 2* Adapter 
                or 
 Intel PRO/100+ Management Adapter with Alert on LAN

HOW TO USE: 

1. Download the SoftPaq to a new, empty directory.

2. From that directory, execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen 
instructions to unpack the files. When asked to specify the target directory,
accept the default, which is the download directory. 

3. You must first remove the current Windows NT 4.0 driver before installing the new 
driver.

   a. Select Start, Settings, then Control Panel. 
   b. Double click the "Network" icon. 
   c. Select the "Adapters" tab. 
   d. Select the "Intel(R) PRO/100 VM Network Connection". 
   e. Select the "Remove" button. 
   f. Select the "Yes" button to permanently remove the component from the system. 
   g. Select the "Intel(R) PRO/100+ Alert on LAN 2* Adapter" or "Intel PRO/100+ Management 
      Adapter with Alert on LAN". 
   h. Select the "Remove" button. 
   i. Select the "Yes" button to permanently remove the component from the system. 
   j. Select the "Yes" button to remove the associated files. 
   k. Select the "Close" button. 

4. Install the new Windows NT 4.0 driver.

   a. Select Start, Settings, then Control Panel. 
   b. Double click the "Network" icon. 
   c. Select the "Adapters" tab. 
   d. Select the "Add" button 
   e. Select the "Have Disk" button 
   f. Type in the directory path chosen in step 1. 
	Example: 
	C:\Program Files\Compaq\CPQLANModem\Dual Network 
   g. Select the "OK" button, or press Enter 
   h. Select the "Intel(R) PRO Adapter" (for the Docking Station NIC). 
   i. Select the "OK" button. This will install the "Intel(R) PRO/100+ Alert on 
        LAN 2* Adapter" or the "Intel PRO/100+ Management Adapter with Alert on LAN". 
   j. Repeat steps d, e, f, and g. 
   k. Select the "Intel PRO Mobile Adapter" (for the embedded NIC). 
   l. Select the "OK" button. This will install the "Intel(R) PRO/100 VM Network 
        Connection". 
   m. Select the "Close" button. 
   n. Select the desired Network Properties for each adapter (ie. DHCP, etc.). 
   o. Select the "OK" button. 
   p. Select the "Yes" button to restart your computer. 

5. Verify the Windows NT 4.0 driver installation.

   a. Select Start, Settings, then Control Panel. 
   b. Double click the "Devices" icon. 
   c. The device list should contain two Intel NIC drivers: 
        "Intel(R) PRO Mobile NDIS Driver" 
        "Intel(R) PRO NDIS Driver" 
   d. Select the "Close" button. 

6. Configure the Windows NT 4.0 hardware profile.

   a. Select Start, Settings, then Control Panel. 
   b. Double click the "System" icon. 
   c. Select the "Hardware Profiles" tab. 
   d. Using the "Copy" and "Rename" buttons, create desired profiles. 
      (ie. Docked Network, Undocked Network, No Network). 
   e. Use the UP/DOWN arrows to the right of the profile list to set the desired 
      DEFAULT (top) Hardware Profile. 
   f. Select the "Apply" button. 
   g. Select the "OK" button. 
   h. On the Control Panel window, double click the "Devices" icon. 
   i. Select the "Intel(R) PRO Mobile NDIS Driver" device, then select the 
      "HW Profiles" button. 
   j. Select the "Docked Network" profile, then select the "Disable" button. 
   k. Select the "No Network" profile, then select the "Disable" button. 
   l. Select the "OK" button. 
   m. Select the "Intel(R) PRO NDIS Driver" device, then select the "HW Profiles" 
      button. 
   n. Select the "Undocked Network" profile, then select the "Disable" button. 
   o. Select the "No Network" profile, then select the "Disable" button. 
   p. Select the "OK" button. 
   q. Select the "Close" button. 
   r. Select Start, Shutdown, Restart, then select the "OK" button. 
   s. When the computer restarts, select the desired Hardware Profile configuration.
