TITLE: ROMPaq for Evo Workstation W8000 (686P6 ROM)

DESCRIPTION:
This SoftPaq creates a ROMPaq firmware diskette that can be used to locally restore or 
upgrade the System ROM in the Compaq models with a 686P6 Family ROM.  A backup of the 
current System ROM will be copied onto the ROMPaq diskette during the flash process.

NOTES: 
This is the same ROM contained in SoftPaq SP18879. The only difference is in the
documentation for the Enhancements. If you already downloaded and installed the ROM
in SP18879, you do not need this one.

The ROM Family and ROM date can be determined by running the Setup Utility by 
pressing F10 on the target computer during system power on of the computer, and viewing 
File/System Information.  This information can be saved into a text file by selecting 
File/Save to Diskette.

ENHANCEMENTS:
 - Adds a feature to F10 Setup to allow manual fan speed control.
 - When transitioning to ACPI mode, turns off IDE hard drive timeout and allows
   ACPI capable operating system to handle IDE hard drive time out.
 - Adds new error code (110) for option ROMs that can not run due to limited
   DCH space.

FIXES:
 - Corrects an issue regarding remote power off for multi-processors in NT 4.0.

HOW TO USE:

1.  Obtain a formatted 1.44-MB diskette and place it in your A: drive.

2.  Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive.  The file that is 
downloaded is an executable with a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above.

3.  From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen 
instructions to build the ROMPaq diskette.

4.  After the diskette has been created, you may delete the SoftPaq file downloaded in 
step 2.

5.  Place the newly created diskette in the A: drive of the computer to be upgraded or 
restored and cycle system power to boot from the ROMPaq diskette.

6.  Follow the on-screen instructions to select the Compaq System ROM and flash the 
firmware.

7.  To create additional ROMPaq diskettes, run the QRST5 application created by the 
SoftPaq.

WARNING:  DO NOT TURN OFF POWER OR ATTEMPT TO REBOOT THE COMPUTER DURING THE 
          UPGRADE PROCESS!!!
