DESCRIPTION:
This SoftPaq creates a ROMPaq firmware diskette that can be used to locally
restore or upgrade the System ROM in the Compaq Evo Workstation W6000 models
with a 686P8 Family ROM. A backup of the current System ROM will be copied
onto the ROMPaq diskette during the flash process.
The ROM Family and ROM date can be determined by running the Setup Utility by
pressing F10 on the target computer during system power on of the computer, and
viewing File/System Information. This information can be saved into a text
file by selecting File/Save to Diskette.
ENHANCEMENTS/FIXES:
- Launches embedded NIC option ROM and enables it to shrink to occupy less DCH
space.
- Improves error message display if a second processor has problems during POST.
- Removes microcode support for B0 and B1 step Foster CPUs. Adds support for C0
and D0 step.
- Turns off SCSI LED when the SCSI controller is hidden or disabled through F10
Setup.
- Enhances acoustics by lowering fan voltage.
- Enhances thermal support for upcoming 2.0GHz and future Intel Xeon processor
speed increases.
- Improves POST messages by adding a warning message in the case where more
option ROMs are attempting to load than possible.
- Improves multi-processor initialization to allow more configuration time for
the non-BootStrap processor.
- When transitioning to ACPI mode, turns off system IDE hard drive timeout and
allows ACPI-capable operating systems to handle the IDE hard drive time out.
- Adds support for new thermal alert chip in Pentium 4 products.
- Corrects an issue in the El Torito (bootable CD) hard drive emulation support
that caused storage data errors when attempting to boot from a hard drive
emulating a CD that specified more than one sector in its Section Entry data
structure (e.g. Intelligent Disaster Recovery CD).
- Corrects PCI configuration for Cardbus bridges.
- Corrects issue with remote power off for NT 4.0 with multi-processors.
HOW TO USE:
1. Obtain a formatted 1.44-MB diskette and place it in your A: drive.
2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change to that
directory. The file that is downloaded is an executable with a filename based
on the SoftPaq Number above.
3. From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file and follow the
on-screen instructions to build the ROMPaq diskette.
4. After the diskette has been created, you may delete the SoftPaq file
downloaded in step 2.
5. Place the newly created diskette in the A: drive of the computer to be
upgraded or restored and cycle system power to boot from the ROMPaq diskette.
6. Follow the on-screen instructions to select the v1.08 Compaq System ROM and
flash the firmware.
7. To create additional ROMPaq diskettes, run the QRST5 application.
WARNING: DO NOT TURN OFF POWER OR ATTEMPT TO REBOOT THE COMPUTER DURING THE
UPGRADE PROCESS!!!
