DESCRIPTION:  The Options ROMPaq diskettes allow a user to
upgrade the ROM Firmware images for Compaq System Product Options. 
The Options ROMPaq consists of four (4) diskettes:

	Disk 1 - Options ROMPaq Firmware Upgrade Diskette for 
		 the Compaq SMART-2 Family, SMART Array 221,
		 3100ES and 3200 controllers. 

	Disk 2 - Options ROMPaq Firmware Upgrade Diskette for 
		 Compaq Smart Array 4200, 4250ES, 431 and 
	         5300 controllers.

	Disk 3 - Options ROMPaq Firmware Upgrade Diskette for 
		 Compaq Integrated Smart Array and 
		 RAID LC2 controllers. 

	Disk 4 - Options ROMPaq Firmware Upgrade Diskette for 
		 Compaq RA4X00 Controllers.
 
* NOTE: Upgrading/flashing the Smart Array 5300 Controller can take 
	ten or more minutes. 

* NOTE: This Option ROMPaq does not contain firmware images for any
        Compaq tape drives. Obtain the latest Tape Options ROMPaq
	from the Compaq Web site to get the latest tape drive
	firmware from Compaq.  

* NOTE: This Option ROMPaq does not contain firmware images for the 
        Compaq SMART Controller. Obtain SoftPaq SP8050 to get firmware
        for this controller.

* NOTE: This Option ROMPaq does not contain firmware images for the 
        Compaq SCSI Hard Drives. 

* NOTE: ****BOOT FROM DISKs 1 & 4 TO IDENTIFY ALL SUPPORTED DEVICES****


 I.  REASON FOR RELEASE:

	Fixed in this release are the following items: 
	
	Code changes to correct the Integrated Smart Array controller 
	from reporting false 1721 POST Error Messages.

	Code changes on Smart Array controller F/W to support Computer 
	Associate ARCserve 2000 Compaq EBS kit 
	(includes Netware ARCserve 7).
	
	New to this release are the following items:

	Upgraded Integrated Smart Array controller F/W from v1.44 to v1.46.
      
        Upgraded Smart Array 5300 controller F/W from v1.74 to v1.76.

HOW TO USE:

1. Obtain four (4) formatted 1.44-MB diskettes.

2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change 
to that directory. The file that is downloaded is an executable with 
a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above.

3. From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file 
and follow the on-screen instructions. You will be prompted to 
insert the formatted diskettes in a drive to create the diskettes.

4. After the diskettes have been created, you may delete the  
SoftPaq file downloaded in step 2.

5. The Options ROMPaq diskettes are self-booting diskettes. Place each
ROMPaq diskette into your drive A: diskette drive and power cycle your
system to begin updating the appropriate components.
