                       IMPORTANT: To determine if your computer contains this modem 
                                  follow these steps. --
                       Step 1. Right click on "My Computer" located on the desktop.
                       Step 2. Select "Properties" on the menu.
                       Step 3. Select the "Device Manager" Tab.
                       Step 4. Ensure that "View Devices by Type" is selected at the top 
                               of the window.
                       Step 5. Scroll down until you see "modems"
                       Step 6. Click on "Modems." This should state that your modem is the 
                               HSP56 Micromodem.  If it states otherwise, then this 
                               SoftPaq is not for you.

DESCRIPTION:  This is the Windows ME driver for the PC-TEL Platinum Connect V.90 Modem 
(also know as HSP56K Micromodem) for the Presario models listed above.

IMPORTANT:  Because the modem name changed, the Dial-Up Network connection may 
            not work.  The modem dialing properties (area code rules and prefixes 
            like 9 and *70) are lost. 
            After this driver upgrade, you must update the Dial-up Networking 
            properties to select the new modem name.

Enhancements/Fixes:
 - Adds data-mode noise estimation and improved rate renegotiation. 

HOW TO USE:

1. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive.

2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions. 

IMPORTANT:  Because the modem name changed, the Dial-Up Network connection may 
            not work.  The modem dialing properties (area code rules and prefixes 
            like 9 and *70) are lost. 
            After this driver upgrade, you must update the Dial-up Networking 
            properties to select the new modem name.
