DESCRIPTION: 
	    This utility is to upgrade the firmware in Compaq 
	    Smart Array Integrated Controllers prior to VER. 1.46. 
             
            Using this utility is recommended ONLY if the customer 
            could not upgrade the Smart Array Integrated Controller 
	    firmware using Options ROMPAQ's SP16371 & SP17863. 

Reasons: 
	    Resolves previous firmware upgrade failures using 
	    SP16371 & SP17863.

HOW TO USE:

1. Obtain one (1) formatted 1.44-MB diskettes.

2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change 
to that directory. The file that is downloaded is an executable with 
a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above.

3. From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file 
and follow the on-screen instructions. You will be prompted to 
insert the formatted diskette in a drive to create the diskette.

4. After the diskette has been created, you may delete the  
SoftPaq file downloaded in step 2.

5. The diskette is a self-booting diskette. Place the
diskette into your drive A: diskette drive and power cycle your
system to apply the utility. The firmware upgrade will proceed without
any user intervention.

6. Once the utility is finished, reboot the system a second time. 
During POST, the Option ROM would indicate the new version of 
firmware that is currently running.
