DESCRIPTION:  The M&P Patch Utility resets any false predictive 
failure indicators and returns the drive from a falsely degraded 
condition to a normal operating condition. This will also prevent
any future false predictive failure errors from occurring.

* NOTE: No Self Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T.) 
        attributes or values are changed so that any actual S.M.A.R.T. 
        predictive failures will remain triggered.  

* NOTE: The M&P Patch Utility eliminates the traditional hard drive 
        M&P tests and associated thresholds. Compaq Insight Manager will show 
        these tests as N/A (Not Applicable) in the hard drive monitoring 
        section of the application. A future release of Compaq Insight Manager 
        will replace these test fields with the associated S.M.A.R.T. 
        predictive failure tests and values.

* NOTE: This utility only applies to Compaq SCSI hard drives attached to Compaq
        SMART Array Controllers. Hard drives attached to standard SCSI controllers
        are not affected.




*Note : If you are planning to upgrade the hard drive firmware it is
important to perform the hard drive firmware upgrades by running Options ROMPaq 
before running this utility. Running Options ROMPaq v2.62 or any earlier versions 
can undo the changes made by this utility. If this happens, simply run 
this utility again after completing the necessary firmware upgrades.

*Note: This version  of the M&P patch will not affect drives attached to RA41XX, 
Compaq will add this support to a future version of the M&P patch.  

KNOWN ISSUES:
* Compaq Insight Manager will show the traditional hard drive M&P tests as N/A 
  (Not Applicable) in the hard drive monitoring section of the application. A 
  future release of Compaq Insight Manager will replace these test fields with 
  the associated S.M.A.R.T. predictive failure tests and values. 

 
HOW TO USE:

1. Obtain one (1) formatted 1.44-MB diskettes.

2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change 
to that directory. The file that is downloaded is an executable with 
a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above.

3. From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file 
and follow the on-screen instructions. You will be prompted to 
insert the formatted diskette in a drive to create the diskette.

4. After the diskette has been created, you may delete the  
SoftPaq file downloaded in step 2.

5. The M&P Patch Utility diskette is a self-booting diskette. Place the
diskette into your drive A: diskette drive and power cycle your
system to apply the utility.
