DESCRIPTION:

The LAN  Adapter Support  Software  Diskette(SSD)  is  a  collection
of VINES 8.50, 8.50(1)  and 8.60 software components which provide 
support for Compaq Network Interface Controllers.

1.0   CHANGES FROM PREVIOUS RELEASE

Rev 1.0.4: Compaq Netelligent 4/16 TR UTP/STP driver
           Driver enhanced to give support of Statistics OID for token ring controller.

1.1   Y2K COMPLIANCE

      Banyan VINES 8.50(1) is a Y2K  Compliant Operating System. LAN
      Adapter  Support  Software  Version  3.04  and  above  are Y2K
      Compliant.

2.0   SOFTWARE COMPONENTS

Note: 1. Compaq Token  Ring  controller  driver  when  present  with
         Compaq Intel Fast Ethernet NIC Driver or Compaq Intel  Dual
         Fast Ether NIC Driver  in  the  system,  requires  the  Y2K
         compliant VINES 8.50(1) as a minimum revision  of  OS.  The
         said  combination may not work properly on earlier  non-Y2K
         -compliant / non-supported release of Banyan VINES OS.

      2. MAC address needs to be changed manually by  going  through
         the following steps for port other than first port:
         a) From the Operator menu select Main menu option.
         b) Select option 6 to configure Network controller.
         c) Change the MAC Address setting by choosing
            Add Adapter option.
         d) Save the changes and exit.
         e) Reboot the system to bring the changes into effect.

HOW TO USE:

1. Obtain two formatted 1.44 MB diskettes.

2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change
   to that directory. The file that is downloaded is SP16259.EXE.

3. From that drive and directory, execute the SoftPaq file:
        SP16259 [ENTER]
   The following files should be created:
        276818US._01
        276818US._02
	QRST5.EXE
        SP16259.TXT

4. To create the diskettes, at the DOS prompt run:
	QRST5 [ENTER]
   Follow  the  on-screen  instructions,  which  prompt you  when to 
   insert the formatted diskettes and allow you to print labels.

5. After  the  SSD   diskettes  are  created,  you  may  delete  the
   downloaded file SP16259.EXE and the other files it creates on the 
   download directory if you wish.

6. Insert the documentation diskette(the second diskette) into drive
   A and  perform  one of  the  following to  view the  installation
   instructions :
	From a DOS prompt enter "a:\readme"
        or
	Boot the system with the diskette in the drive A:
