SYSTEM CONFIGURATION: CIM Agents Version 2.61
DESCRIPTION: When running CIM Agents 2.61 for SCO OpenServer 5, the file "/var/adm/syslog" may quickly be filled with the message "can't find utmp entry for line ttyp3". This Softpaq corrects the problem by fixing the Host Agent to eliminate excessive writes to the "/var/adm/syslog" file.
HOW TO USE:
1. Obtain a DOS formatted 1.44 MB diskette.
2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change to that directory. The file that is downloaded is SP1621.EXE.
3. From that drive and directory, execute the SoftPaq file:
SP1621 [ENTER]
The following files should be created:
QRST5.EXE
CIMAGENT._01
SP1621.DOC
4. Create the diskette image by executing QRST5 at the DOS or DOS Merge. Refer to the SP1621.DOC file created by the SoftPaq for detailed instructions.
5. After the diskette is created, you may delete the downloaded file SP1621.EXE if you wish.
6. To install the Host Agent for SCO OpenServer 5.0, insert the newly created diskette into the SCO default diskette drive. From the console, log in as root in single user mode and execute the following commands to copy the new file from the diskette:
init 1
cd /usr/local/compaq/bin
tar xv
sync
7. Remove the diskette, and enter the following command:
init 6
The server should reboot.
8. The following step is optional. Please consult your system administrator before you execute it. After the server is up, log in as root. To strip the error message mentioned in DESCRIPTION from the "syslog" file, execute the following commands:
cd /var/adm
egrep -v "can't find utmp entry for line" syslog > syslog.tmp
cp syslog.tmp syslog
rm syslog.tmp
