DESCRIPTION:  This SoftPaq contains version 1.1 of the Compaq C3-1000
Drivers for Windows 2000 and Windows XP. It is equivalent to the Drivers 
containedon the Compaq C3-1000 Drivers 1.1 CD (part number 212986-002).

Specifically, this SoftPaq includes the C3-1000 Printer Driver, the
C3-1000 USB Driver, the C3-1000 TWAIN Driver, the C3-1000 Settings Utility,
the C3-1000 Firmware Upgrade Utility, and C3-1000 Online Help.

It does not include ReadIRIS (OCR) or Media Browser. However, these
programs may be installed from the original Compaq C3-1000 Drivers CD
after installing this SoftPaq (details below). These programs are not
required for routine use of the C3-1000.

HOW TO USE:

Log on to Windows 2000 or Windows XP as a user with administrative
privileges before following these steps. 

1.  Download the SoftPaq file into an easily-remembered folder
    on your hard drive. The SoftPaq file is a self-extracting executable
    program with a filename based on the SoftPaq number above.

2.  Check if another version of the Compaq C3-1000 Drivers software is
    already installed by selecting Start->Programs and looking
    for "Compaq C3-1000" in the Programs menu. If found, uninstall
    it by selecting:
    Start->Programs->Compaq C3-1000->Uninstall Compaq C3-1000 Software

3.  Set up the Compaq C3-1000 as described in the "Getting Started" chapter
    of the C3-1000 User Guide. However, instead of installing
    the software from the CD, continue to the next step.

4.  Open (or Run) the SoftPaq file that was downloaded in step 1 and
    follow the on-screen instructions. The SoftPaq file will be "unpacked"
    into a folder on your hard drive. By default, it will be unpacked into a
    folder named by SoftPaq number under \Program Files\Compaq SoftPaqs

5a. Windows 2000: After the files have been unpacked, the setup program will
    automatically begin. Follow the on-screen instructions. When the
    "Digital Signature Not Found" message box appears, click [Yes] to
    continue.

5b. Windows XP: After the files have been unpacked, the setup program will
    automatically begin. Follow the on-screen instructions. When the
    "Hardware Installation" message box appears, click [Yes] to continue.

6.  After the setup program has finished, you may delete the SoftPaq
    file (from step 1) and the SoftPaq folder (from step 4) if you wish.


THE FOLLOWING STEPS ARE OPTIONAL

Follow the steps below if you want to install (or re-install) the ReadIRIS
and Media Browser programs:

7.  Insert the Compaq C3-1000 Drivers CD that was packaged with the printer.
    The installation will start after a short period of time. If it does
    not start automatically, you will need to start it yourself:
    a. Click Start->Run
    b. Type x:\setup.exe
       (where x is the drive letter for your CD-ROM drive)
    c. Click [OK]

8.  When the "Welcome" screen appears, click [Next].

9.  When the "Software License" screen appears, read the license agreement
    and click [Yes] if you accept the terms of the agreement.

10. When the "Choose Destination Location" screen appears, click [Next].
    NOTE: If you had changed the Destination Folder when you installed
    the SoftPaq, you should click on [Browse] and select the same
    Destination Folder before clicking [Next].

11. When the "Setup Type" screen appears, click on

       (*) Custom

    and then click [Next].

12. When the "Select Components" screen appears, CLEAR the checkmarks next
    to the following components:

       [ ] Compaq C3-1000 USB Driver
       [ ] AcroRead Win2K
       [ ] Compaq C3-1000 TWAIN Driver
       [ ] Compaq C3-1000 Win2K
       [ ] Compaq C3-1000 Settings Utility

    Make sure the boxes next to

       [x] Readiris
       [x] ArcSoft Printer Suite

    are checked. You may need to scroll the components list to see them.
    Click [Next] and proceed through the remaining screens to complete
    the software installation.
