DESCRIPTION:  This SoftPaq contains Version 1.1 of the Compaq A1500
All-In-One Printer drivers for Windows 2000 and Windows XP. It is
equivalent to the drivers contained on the Compaq A1500 Drivers 1.1
CD (Part Number 192317-002).

Specifically, this SoftPaq includes the A1500 Printer Driver,
the A1500 TWAIN Driver, the A1500 Settings Utility, the A1500 (MFP)
Firmware Upgrade Utility, and the A1500 Online User Guide.

It does not include ReadIRIS (OCR) or Media Browser. However, these
programs may be installed from the original Compaq A1500 Drivers CD
after installing this SoftPaq (details below). These programs are not
required for routine use of the A1500.

HOW TO USE:

Log on to Windows 2000 or Windows XP as a user with administrative 
privileges before following these steps.

1.  Download the SoftPaq file into an easily-remembered folder
    on your hard drive. The SoftPaq file is a self-extracting executable
    program with a filename based on the SoftPaq number above.

2.  Check if another version of the Compaq A1500 Drivers software is
    already installed by selecting Start->Programs and looking
    for "Compaq A1500 All-In-One" in the Programs menu. If found, uninstall
    it by selecting:
    Start->Programs->Compaq A1500 All-In-One->Uninstall Compaq A1500 All-In-One

3.  Set up the Compaq A1500 All-In-One as described in the "Getting
    Started" chapter of the A1500 User Guide. However, instead of proceeding
    to the "Compaq A1500 Software Installation" chapter in the User Guide,
    continue to the next step.

4.  Open (or Run) the SoftPaq file that was downloaded in step 1 and
    follow the on-screen instructions. The SoftPaq file will be "unpacked"
    into a folder on your hard drive. By default, it will be unpacked into a
    folder named by SoftPaq number under \Program Files\Compaq SoftPaqs

5.  After the files have been unpacked, the setup program will
    automatically begin. Follow the on-screen instructions.

6.  Windows XP: Following installtion of the A1500 using this Softpaq you
    must set the A1500 as your default printer.  Click on:
    Start->Control Panel->Printers and Other Hardware->Printers and Faxes
    Next, right click on the Compaq A1500 icon and select "Set as Default
    Printer"

7.  After the setup program has finished, you may delete the SoftPaq
    file (from step 1) and the SoftPaq folder (from step 4) if you wish.


THE FOLLOWING STEPS ARE OPTIONAL

Follow the steps below if you want to install (or re-install) the ReadIRIS
and Media Browser programs:

8.  Insert the Compaq A1500 Drivers CD that was packaged with the printer.
    The installation will start after a short period of time. If it does
    not start automatically, you will need to start it yourself:
    a. Click Start->Run
    b. Type x:\setup.exe
       (where x is the drive letter for your CD-ROM drive)
    c. Click [OK]

9.  When the "Welcome" screen appears, click [Next].

10. When the "Software License" screen appears, read the license agreement
    and click [Yes] if you accept the terms of the agreement.

11. When the "Choose Destination Location" screen appears, click [Next].
    NOTE: If you had changed the Destination Folder when you installed
    the SoftPaq, you should click on [Browse] and select the same
    Destination Folder before clicking [Next].

12. When the "Setup Type" screen appears, click on

       (*) Custom

    and then click [Next].

13. When the "Select Components" screen appears, CLEAR the checkmarks next
    to the following components:

       [ ] Win2K Printer Driver
       [ ] AcroRead W2K
       [ ] Compaq MFP Firmware Upgrade Utility
       [ ] Compaq A1500 TWAIN Drivers
       [ ] Compaq A1500 Settings Utility

    Make sure the boxes next to

       [x] Readiris
       [x] ArcSoft Printer Suite

    are checked. You may need to scroll the components list to see them.
    Click [Next] and proceed through the remaining screens to complete
    the software installation.
