DESCRIPTION:  This SoftPaq contains version 1.8 of the Compaq IJ600
Printer Drivers for Windows NT 4.0/2000. It is equivalent to the Drivers
contained on the Compaq IJ600 Drivers 1.8 CD (part number 178340-008).

HOW TO USE:

Log on to Windows as a user with administrative privileges before
following these steps.

1.  Download the SoftPaq file to an easily-remembered location
    on your computer, such as the Desktop. The SoftPaq file is a self-
    extracting program named SP15837.EXE

2.  Check if another version of the Compaq IJ600 Drivers software is
    already installed by selecting Start->Programs and looking
    for "Compaq IJ600" in the Programs menu. If found, uninstall
    it by selecting:
    Start->Programs->Compaq IJ600->Uninstall

3.  Check that the Compaq IJ600 is properly connected to your computer
    and is powered on (Refer to the IJ600 User Guide for assistance).
    If the "Found New Hardware Wizard" screen appears, select [Cancel].

4.  Open (or Run) the SoftPaq file that was downloaded in step 1 and
    follow the on-screen instructions. The SoftPaq will be "unpacked"
    into a folder on your local disk. By default, it will be unpacked
    into a folder named \Program Files\Compaq SoftPaqs\SP15837

5.  After the files have been unpacked, the IJ600 Drivers setup
    program will automatically begin.

6.  The Software License Agreement screen will appear. Click [Yes]
    if you accept the terms of the agreement.

7.  The Printer Port selection screen will appear. Select the
    port on your computer that your printer is attached to and
    click [OK].

    NOTE: On Windows 2000, parallel port choices begin with "LPT"
    and USB port choices begin with "USB". On Windows NT 4.0, USB
    ports are not supported.

8.  Continue through the remaining screens.

9.  Restart Windows to complete the installation.

10. After the IJ600 Drivers are installed, you may delete the SoftPaq
    file (from step 1) and the SoftPaq folder (from step 4) if you
    wish.


TROUBLESHOOTING: ERROR COMMUNICATING WITH PRINTER

T1. If you see an "Error communicating with printer" message
    when attempting to print for the first time, and none of the
    corrective suggestions fix the problem, it's likely that the
    wrong printer port was selected in step 7. Click [Cancel] to
    dismiss the message.

T2. Select Start->Settings->Printers to open the Printers folder.
    Select the Compaq IJ600 printer icon, then select File->Properties.
    On the Properties window that appears, select the "Ports" tab.
    Check the correct port, then click [OK] and try printing again.
