DESCRIPTION: This SoftPaq contains version x2q firmware for the
Compaq CR3500 RAID Controller.
Enhancements/Fixes: Made the following fixes to the firmware:
1. Modified the firmware to improve controller rebinding
functionality when using the NetWare 4.2 operating system.
HOW TO USE:
1. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive.
The SoftPaq file that is downloaded is a self-extracting
executable with a file name based on the SoftPaq number above.
2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen
instructions. Press the Y key to confirm the unpacking of
the files into the download directory.
3. After the fdi file has been unpacked, you may delete the
self-extracting file downloaded in step 1.
4. Follow the steps below if your CL1850 or CL380 is running NT.
1. Suspend all I/O activity to the controller(s).
2. Open the CR3500 Configuration Utility.
3. Select a SCSI connection. (the utility will not allow
firmware updates via a serial connection.)
4. Save the current controller(s) configuration by selecting
"Storage", "Controller", "Configuration" and "Save".
5. Choose a name for the file and add a .cfg extension to the
file. (You do not need to add the .cfg extension if you use
the "Browse" button to select a directory to save the
file to.)
6. Go to "Storage", select "Controller", then select
"Update Firmware".
7. Use the "Browse" button and select the x2q.fdi file and
click "Open".
8. Press the "Start Update" button to begin the firmware
update.
5. Follow the steps below if your CL1850 or CL380 is running NetWare.
It is important that the steps below be followed for each
controller.
1. Connect the CR3500 Shared Storage RAID Controller to a
system running Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows
NT using the serial connector on the back of the shared
storage subsystem.
2. Use a terminal program, such as HyperTerminal, to connect.
3. Use the following settings to connect:
Bit per Second = 9600
Data Bit = 8
Parity = None
Stop Bits = 1
Flow Control = XON / XOFF
4. Power up the shared storage subsystem, and press CTRL+C to
abort the controller boot process.
5. Select option 2 to change the baud rate.
6. Select option 3 to set baud rate to 38400.
7. Change the baud rate on the terminal to match the
controller's 38400 settings.
8. Disconnect, then reconnect the terminal service.
9. Press ENTER to re-establish communication with the
controller.
10. Select option 1, and press ENTER.
11. Transfer the firmware file as a text file from the terminal
service. The entire update should take approximately 15
minutes at a baud rate of 38400.
12. After the firmware update, select option 2 and change the
baud rate to 9600 by selecting option 1.
13. Change the baud rate to 9600 on the terminal service.
14. Disconnect, then reconnect the terminal service.
15. Press ENTER to reestablish communication with the
controller.
16. Select option 9 to restart the controller.
17. After you have updated firmware on the second controller
power down the power back on the shared storage system.
Disregard this step if you have a single controller
configuration.
6. After the installation is completed, you may delete the files
unpacked in step 2.
