DESCRIPTION:  Allows a user to upgrade the firmware on a Compaq 288 PCMCIA Modem to a Version 1.042 Rev A ROM.

ROM Updates:
* New DSP code, version 2.65, has been integrated in this release.  
* CODEX no connect problem has been fixed in 2.65 DSP release.
* Analog loop back problem has been fixed by initializing MSE scalor factor on power up.
* Fixes problem of dropping carrier without retrain in V.32bis mode.  
* Resets fall forward /fall back monitoring timer back to 4 s from 16 s  (16 s is too long for LAM-P re-transmit timer).

HOW TO USE:

1. Obtain a formatted 1.44 MB diskette.

2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change to  that directory.  The file that is downloaded is SP1431.EXE.

3. From that drive and directory, execute the SoftPaq file:
   SP1431 [ENTER]
You will be prompted to place the formatted 1.44 MB diskette into a diskette drive to create the diskette.

4. After the diskette is created, you may delete the downloaded file SP1431.EXE if you wish.

5. Please view the README.1ST file on the diskette for instructions on how to use the ROMpaq.
