DESCRIPTION:  The Adaptec APA-358 MiniSCSI EPP SCSI Host Adapter is an EPP (enhanced parallel port) to SCSI adapter which connects to the parallel port of a PC and allows a SCSI device such as a hard drive or CD-ROM drive to be connected externally.  The device driver MA358.SYS may fail to load properly on a Compaq LTE Elite, Contura 400, or Contura 410 laptop, giving the error message "No SCSI Host Adapter Found".  This Softpaq contains a patch driver, MA358FIX.SYS, which fixes this problem when it is loaded in the CONFIG.SYS immediately before MA358.SYS.

PREREQUISITE:  MA358.SYS Version 2.0 or greater, available from Adaptec's BBS at (408) 945-7727

HOW TO USE:

1.  Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change to that directory.  The file that is downloaded is SP1410.EXE.

2.  From that drive and directory, execute the SoftPaq file:
SP1410 [ENTER]
The following files should be created:
MA358FIX.SYS 
MA358FIX.DOC

3.  After the files are created, you may delete the downloaded file SP1410.EXE if you wish.

4.  Using an editor, add a line for the MA358FIX.SYS driver immediately before the MA358.SYS driver in the CONFIG.SYS file.  Example:
...
DEVICE=C:\<PATH>\MA358FIX.SYS
DEVICE=C:\<PATH>\MA358.SYS
...

5.  When you reboot the system, the driver should load properly.
