DESCRIPTION: This is the system BIOS (ROMPaq) upgrade to be used with 
Compaq Remote Management Software for the Armada Family and models 
listed above.  The BIOS interfaces directly with the hardware of system. 

ENHANCEMENTS/FIXES:
 - Resolves the issue where the hard drive was not able to idle when the 
   notebook enters Standby mode while using AC power.
 - Resolves the issue where the notebook stops responding after an external 
   monitor is turned off in Windows 98 and then the notebook is removed from 
   the docking station while running.
 - Resolves a minor issue with the brightness of the hard drive LED during 
   Standby mode in Windows 98.

HOW TO USE

1.  Download the SoftPaq to a temporary, empty directory on your hard drive.  
The file downloaded is a self-extracting executable with a filename based on 
the SoftPaq Number above.

2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions. Enter "Y" 
to confirm the unpacking of the system BIOS files into the download directory. 

3. After the files have been unpacked, you may delete the self-extracting file 
downloaded in step 1.

4. The system BIOS/ROM image file (686R.CAB) will be one of the files placed in 
in download directory at the following path:

   path\disk1 
   where path is the drive and directory from step 2

Optionally, you may run the MAKEDISK.BAT file to create an upgrade diskette 
contianing the BIOS/ROM image file.

5. The BIOS/ROM image file must be used with Remote Management Software in order 
to actually flash (upgrade) the ROM image on one of the affected Armada notebooks.
