T1000 Client Manager, Version 1.0.2.1 (SoftPaq SP13805)
NOTE: Client Manager, Version 1.0.1.1 will not work with this.
EFFECTIVE DATE: May 1, 2000
ELECTRONIC DISTRIBUTION ALLOWED: Yes
SOFTPAQ UTILITY VERSION: 4.0
SUPERSEDES: N/A
DESCRIPTION:
This utility will place a set of files on a server for later
installation of the T1000 Client Manager firmware upgrade. Once the
files are placed on the server, the System Administrator will either
place the files in an FTP site area, or use the T1000 Client Manager
Tool to remotely "push" the firmware upgrade to the selected T1000
Clients.
Enhancements/Fixes:
ENHANCEMENT#1: Microsoft Windows CE Version 2.12 core OS updates.
ENHANCEMENT#2: Citrix MetaFrame 1.8 support via a new client,
Version 4.10, build 752, and includes the following functionality.
Local printer support - Allows administrator to indicate a specific
printer is attached to a client reducing the current per connection
configuration.
Reducer code - Reduces the network traffic due to more efficient use
of the protocol
Business Recovery - Support fail over to a backup server in the event
of primary server disruption Note: This new client does not
support local Program Neighborhood
ENHANCEMENT#3: Secure ICA; is an encryption feature in the ICA client.
A corresponding Citrix component on the server is required for the
encryption support to work. There are three levels of encryption
and v3.4 contains only the basic encryption for use worldwide.
This Citrix encryption format is native to the standard ICA
protocol.
ENHANCEMENT#4: PCMCIA Token Ring; support for the Racore Token Ring
card Model M8134 (revision C or greater).
ENHANCEMENT#5: PCMCIA Wireless; support for the Lucent WaveLan IEEE
802.11 PCMCIA card.
ENHANCEMENT#6: LPD printing; will allow the T1000 to act like a simple
network print server such as the HP JetDirect box. The basic
operation will allow an NT or UNIX box to communicate to a printer
attached to the T1000 through the LPD network protocol. The T1000
will take the printer data and directly route it to the printer.
There will not be any type of spool functionality provided within
the T1000 and only one printer device will be supported.
ENHANCEMENT#7: Wake on LAN; (WOL) allows a system administration tool,
such as the T1000 Client Manger v1.0.2.1, to administer a T1000 at
any time, even when the T1000 is in the OFF state. When in OFF
state, the T1000 still checks each packet on the network and looks
for a specific signature within the frame that can wake the T1000
up and allow administration.
ENHANCEMENT#8: Auto Configure on power-up; this feature removes the
requirement of going through the T1000 Setup Wizard on power-up.
Instead, the user may simply let the T1000 automatically configure
its IP address and even launch a particular ICA session. When the
Setup Wizard is first presented to the user, a timeout value
countdown occurs. During this countdown, the user may continue with
the Setup Wizard or let the timeout expire, thus invoking the Auto
Configure.
ENHANCEMENT#9: Port Lock; this feature disables the T1000 ports, serial
and/or parallel, preventing any resident application access to them.
ENHANCEMENT#10: Single Selection PPP Connect; allows user to make a
single selection to initiate a dial-up followed by a connection.
A connection can either be ICA, RDP or a terminal emulation mode.
ENHANCEMENT#11: IBM5250 Record & Play; this function allow you to store,
retrieve, and display data with a single key entry. The record/play
functions eliminate repetitive operations. Instead of typing the
same data, the T1000 can store the data and recall it. The data
remains in non-volatile storage when saved.
ENHANCEMENT#12: 122 Key keyboard support; supports Affirmative Model
1220 122 keyboard for IBM5250 mode.
ENHANCEMENT#13: Terminal Emulation LPD Client Support; allows spooling
of print jobs to remote LPD network devices.
ENHANCEMENT#14: Audible Tone; in ICA sessions the T1000 will generate
an audible tone without external speakers.
ENHANCEMENT#15: Terminal Emulation Security; Two layers of security
a) Terminal Setup Wizard and b)Account Privilege Properties:
Administrator: As an administrator, a person named in the
"Username" field has system wide authority to do anything and
everything including creating, deleting, and modifying other
users and administrator accounts. No restriction is imposed on
this privilege.
User: A person named in the "Username" field with the "user"
privilege has limited authority to perform certain tasks.
These tasks are: Change password, Configure network including
dialup via PPP, User convenience settings such as screen
resolution, language, etc. and start either dialup or network
connection
Guest: Guest privilege is the most restrictive of all. A person
with "guest" privilege can only do: Initiate a dialup connection
via PPP, user convenience settings such as screen resolution,
language, etc. and start a network connection.
ENHANCEMENT#16:"G" key disable; support Users Interface Properties
Security Field to disable "G" key reset. When enabled the unit
cannot be reset to defaults. Using security you can deny access to
this field to users/guest. NOTE: If security is enabled and the
administrator password is lost, a RELOAD of firmware into the Flash
memory is required to recover.
HOW TO USE:
1. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your server's hard drive.
The file downloaded is a self-extracting executable.
2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.
Entering "Y" to confirm the unpacking of files creates a new
directory folder in the download directory. All files are unpacked
into this newly created directory.
3. The firmware may be either "pulled" to the T1000 via placing the
files on an FTP site and the user invoking the upgrade from the
T1000, or "pushed" to the T1000 by placing the files in a folder
for access/use by the T1000 Client Manager.
4. After the installation of the files is completed, you may delete
the self-extracting file downloaded in Step 1.
