DESCRIPTION:
This SoftPaq creates a ROMPaq firmware diskette that can be used to restore or
upgrade the System ROM in Deskpro EP Series and SB Series models listed below,
when they have a 686T1 Family ROM.
The ROM Family and ROM date can be determined by running F10 Setup.
This ROM includes a ROM-based F10 Setup. A Language Module option allows the
user to select the language used in F10 Setup: Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish,
French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, or Swedish.
This ROM version is recommended for use with Windows 2000.
ENHANCEMENTS/FIXES:
- Features a copy of the Matrox G100 video option ROM in the system BIOS which
will load if an add-in Matrox G100 card has a failing EEPROM.
- Adds a new F10 Setup option, "AGP Aperture Size," under Advanced->Device Options
that allows users to modify the AGP aperture size window from the default of 64MB.
- Corrects an issue specific to the 08/05/99 release for certain combinations of
add-in cards. The specific issue pertained to an Intel 82559 NIC and a Diamond
V770 AGP video card that was causing the system to not display video output.
- Corrects an issue with the 08/05/99 BIOS when using some older ISA add-in cards.
The specific issue was a resource conflict with an ISA IBM 16/4 Token Ring card.
- Corrects a condition with drive geometry that prevented older versions of SCO
Unix(e.g. v3.2) from installing.
- Corrects an issue when using PCI expansion bays with a high number (fifteen or
more) of PCI cards inserted.
- Populated the "Processor Version" field in SMBIOS. This change was made to
support the IBM Netfinity software.
- Corrects a field issue specific to the 08/05/99 release where rare combinations
of option ROMs may hang the system.
HOW TO USE:
1. Obtain a formatted 1.44-MB diskette.
2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change
to that directory. The file that is downloaded is an executable with
a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above.
3. From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file
and follow the on-screen instructions. You will be prompted to
insert the formatted diskette in a drive to create the diskette.
4. After the diskette has been created, you may delete the
SoftPaq file downloaded in step 2.
5. Keeping the newly created diskette in the A: drive, cycle
system power to boot from the ROMPaq diskette.
6. Follow the on-screen instructions to select the 08/18/99
Compaq System ROM or the Language Module option and upgrade the firmware.
