Softpaq Solution: SP1315
File Name: FLIPBRST.COM
Title: Fix PCI Video Cards in Deskpro/Prolinea 4xx/5xx
Version: 1.0
CATEGORY: Software Solution / Desktops
EFFECTIVE DATE: August 1, 1995
PRODUCTS AFFECTED: Deskpro/Prolinea 4xx/5xx with PCI
OPERATING SYSTEM: N/A
SYSTEM CONFIGURATION: Some non-Compaq PCI video cards
SUPERSEDES: None
DESCRIPTION: FLIPBRST.COM is a program that reports the current state of PCI write burst enable flag in Deskpro/Prolinea 4xx/5xx computers and then switches to the opposite state. It changes a bit in CMOS, and only needs to be run once unless some action clears CMOS. The actual reprogramming of the PCI write enable bit occurs during the next cold boot.
This solution may help if you are experiencing difficulties getting a non-Compaq PCI video card working in a Deskpro/Prolinea 4xx/5xx. PCI video controllers that FLIPBRST has been observed to make work are not capable of accepting PCI write bursts. These include:
Tseng Labs ET4000/W32P
S3 Vision864
