DESCRIPTION:
Unpacks the files needed to create a bootable Compaq Personal Computer
Diagnostics diskette, which supports currently shipping Deskpro and
Presario products.
NOTE: This version or another version of Personal Computer Diagnostics is
included in separate Armada and Professional Workstations SoftPaqs,
which often also include Computer Setup.
PC Diagnostics is installed on the Diagnostics Partition for those
systems which support it and have hard drives. It is shipped as a
diskette or diskette image on other products.
A Compaq Personal Computer Diagnostics diskette contains programs that
can perform the following tasks:
- TEST
- INSPECT (display machine config)
The diskette in this SoftPaq can be used to update PC Diagnostics on the
Diagnostics Partition or to restore it if the Diagnostics Partition has been
destroyed. PC Diagnostics can be run by pressing F10 during power-up or
reboot when prompted in the lower right corner of the screen on some models
or when the cursor jumps to the upper right corner of the screen on other models.
Or it can be run directly from this diskette.
NOTE: For the Deskpro EP Series, PC Diagnostics must be run from diskette.
Enhancements/fixes:
- Support for newer 1H2000 Commercial Desktop products
- Fix for false CMOS RAM processor test failures on machines
after year 2000.
- Fixed issue with MPEG decoder boards when identifying old
Token Ring NICs
HOW TO USE:
1. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive.
The file downloaded is a self-extracting executable with a filename
based on the SoftPaq Number above.
2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.
Entering "Y" to confirm the unpacking of files creates a new directory
folder in the download directory. All files are unpacked into this
newly created directory.
3. To create the Diagnostics diskette, run MAKEDISK.BAT and
follow on-screen instructions.
4. After the Diagnostic diskette has been created, you may delete the
self-extracting file downloaded in step 1, as well as the directory
folder and files created in step 2.
5. Shut down and power off the computer.
6. Place the newly created Diagnostics diskette in Drive A:, and
power up the computer, allowing the computer to boot from the diskettte.
7. To install or upgrade Personal Computer Diagnostics on the Diagnostics
Partition, select "Create" or "Update" partition from the "Manage Diagnostics
Partition" menu, and follow the prompts. Or select the option to run
PC Diagnostics from the diskette.
