DESCRIPTION:  This SoftPaq creates a bootable Compaq Presario ROMPaq Update
Diskette, which can be used to update the System ROM to the following 
versions for the following Presario models:

The ROM in this SoftPaq contains BIOS support for the Year 2000.
Note: Not all software uses the BIOS for Year 2000 support.  The Year
2000 support in this ROM will not fix all Year 2000 problems that may
exist in the software that is installed on your system.


Enhancements/Fixes:

  In this SoftPaq:

    - Fixes an issue where models with certain DVD drives would occasionally 
      lock up when starting up Windows.

  The following were fixed in SP12204 and are also included in this SoftPaq: 

    - Fixed a long delay when configuring UDMA drives.
    - Changed some timings to support additional memory devices.

HOW TO USE:

1.  Format a 1.44-MB diskette.

2.  Download the SoftPaq to a temporary, empty directory on your
    hard drive and change to that directory.  The file downloaded
    is a self-extracting executable with a filename based on the
    SoftPaq Number above.

3.  From that drive and directory, execute the SoftPaq file.
    You will be prompted to place the formatted 1.44 MB diskette
    into a diskette drive to create the ROMPaq diskette.

4.  After the files are created, you may delete the downloaded
    file if you wish.

5.  Place the ROMPaq diskette into drive A: of the computer you
    wish to update and turn on the power or reboot the computer,
    allowing it to boot from the diskette.

6.  Follow the instructions on the screen to continue.

7.  Select the ROM version to be installed.

8.  The ROMPaq diskette will automatically update the System ROM and 
    notify you when the update is finished.

    DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER'S POWER DURING THIS PROCESS

9.  When the ROM update is finished, you will need to turn the computer off
    and back on for the changes to be in effect.  Remove the ROMPaq diskette
    from the computer.  Press the power button on the front of the unit for
    up to 8 seconds to force power off.  Press the power button to power on
    the unit.
