DESCRIPTION: Creates the ROMpaq Firmware Upgrade Diskette for
Compaq Armada 4200 Series notebooks, which allows a user to upgrade to
a 08/30/99 System ROM.

Enhancements in this release include several changes that were also
implemented in previous ROM versions dated 11/03/97, 02/03/98,
04/17/98 and 05/21/98:

- NSTL YMark2000 is removed from 08/30/99 version to preserve NSTL Warranty assurances.

- The 05/21/98 ROM ensures correct installation of some external PS2 mice.

- Bar Code Reader Support
Provides support for bar code readers on all Armada 4200 products.

- Resolves issue of system lockup during ROM upgrade experienced with
     previous ROM releases.
- NSTL Year 2000 Compliance
The 02/03/98 ROM ensures that compliance will be maintained should NSTL (an independent
testing organization that has developed a set of criteria for Year 2000 compliance on PCs)
release a new version of automated tests that checks for correct rollover from
     the year 1999 to 2000.
- Non System Disk Error
Repetitive rebooting of the system causes the hard drive not to be detected
on certain boots. The 02/03/98 ROM allows for the hard drive to be
detected properly on every boot and not display a non-system disk error.
- FDD Lost After Resuming
After restarting the system to DOS from Windows 95 and entering hibernation,
the diskette drive is not detected upon resuming. The 02/03/98 ROM allows for
the diskette drive to be detected upon resuming from hibernation.
- Detect Expansion Memory Type Correctly
Allows for FPM/EDO expansion memory to be detected correctly.
Previously, FPM/EDO expansion memory types were not detected
properly, causing the system not to perform to its full potential.

HOW TO USE:

1. Obtain a formatted 1.44-MB diskette.

2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change
to that directory. The file that is downloaded is an executable with
a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above.

3. From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file
and follow the on-screen instructions. You will be prompted to
insert the formatted diskette in a drive to create the diskette.

4. After the diskette has been created, you may delete the
SoftPaq file downloaded in step 2.

5. Power down the computer.

6. Place the newly created Compaq Armada 4200 ROMpaq diskette in
Drive A: and power up the computer. Follow the instructions on the
screen to upgrade the System ROM.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT TURN OFF POWER TO THE SYSTEM WHILE PERFORMING
THIS PROCEDURE!
