DESCRIPTION:  Unpacks the files needed to create a firware upgrade diskette
for the specified hard drives in the Compaq notebooks listed above.

This utility upgrades the firmware on only these hard drives.  If the upgrade 
utility is run on a notebook with a hard drive of a different type, the upgrade 
will not execute.

The upgrade prevents the affected notebooks from displaying FALSE Smart code 
error messages.  The error messages are incorrect, and do not affect the 
functionality of the notebook.  

The possible error messages occur at different stages of startup, as follows.

At POST:  
   "1720 - IntelliSafe Hard Drive detects imminent failure"

Intelligent Manageability (IM) notification error: 
   "Notification of Imminent SMART Hard Drive Failure ..."

When running Diagnostics:
   "ERROR 1736-03 or 1736-07 Hard Drive "

HOW TO USE:

1. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive.
The file downloaded is a self-extracting executable with a filename 
based on the SoftPaq Number above.

2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions. 
Enter "Y" to confirm the unpacking of files into the download directory. 

3. After the files have been unpacked, you may delete the self-extracting file 
downloaded in step 1.

4. For installation instructions, refer to the README.TXT file.
 
5. After the installation is completed, you may delete the files unpacked 
in step 2.
