Version: N/A
_______________________________________________________________

CATEGORY: Software Solutions / Laptop

EFFECTIVE DATE: 02-21-1995

PRODUCTS AFFECTED: Compaq Elite Family, Contura 400 Family

OPERATING SYSTEM: MS-DOS 6.0 or greater

SYSTEM CONFIGURATION: DOS or Windows

SUPERSEDES: N/A

DESCRIPTION: CHKSUMV resolves an anomaly with the Compaq Elite Family and Contura 400 Family of computers. These computers' video ROMs are considered "BAD" ROMs by CSALLOC when using the /D option. Other utilities that attempt to checksum the video ROM have similar problems. CHKSUMV.COM eliminates this anomaly by making the checksum in the video ROM valid to any software that checks. It does not remain resident or occupy any system memory. It just needs to be run whenever your computer is booted.

HOW TO USE:

1. After downloading the SoftPaq, copy it to an empty directory on your hard drive and change to that directory. If downloaded in zipped format (.ZIP), unzip the file to create an executable: PKUNZIP SP1134

2. From that drive and directory, execute the SoftPaq file to unbind the primary files: SP1134 [ENTER]
The following files should be created:

CHKSUMV.DOC
CHKSUMV.COM

3. Copy the files to the directory where you want to keep the files.

COPY CHKSUMV.* \[your choice]

4. Using the DOS EDIT program or a similar ASCII text editor, add CHKSUMV to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file by adding the following line:

[drive:][path]CHKSUMV
