Please stop all backup applications before updating a tape drive or
tape library.  Depending on your software application, you may need to
unmount (unreserve) any tape cartridges in the library.  See your
computer operating system documentation or software application 
documentation for instructions on how to unmount tape cartridges.


* NOTE:To obtain the latestest firmware for other Compaq tape devices,
download SoftPaq SP8050 Option ROMPaq Firmware Upgrade utility from Compaq's
Website.

* NOTE 2:  The tape drives inside the TL891 library do not come ready and 
do not report the correct firmware version when the servo FW is upgraded. After 
the firmware is upgraded, you must power-cycle the tape library 
(or use the reboot function on the front panel).

DESCRIPTION:  The Tape Options ROMPaq diskette allows a user to
              upgrade the ROM Firmware images on Compaq tape 
              product Options. The Tape Options ROMPaq consists of three 
              (3) diskettes:

Disk 1 - Tape Options ROMpaq Firmware Upgrade Diskette for:
- Compaq   4/8-GB DAT drive (C1533/C1539)
- Compaq   4/8-GB DAT drive (SDT7000)
- Compaq 12/24-GB DAT drive

Disk 2 - Tape Options ROMpaq Firmware Upgrade Diskette for:
- Compaq 20/40-GB DLT library drive
- Compaq 35/70-GB DLT library drive
- Compaq DLT Library Model 2040-1 and 2040-2 controllers
- Compaq DLT Library Model 3570-1 and 3570-2 controllers

Disk 3 - Tape Options ROMpaq Firmware Upgrade Diskette for:
- Compaq TL891 Tape Library drive
- Compaq 35/70-GB DLT drive

Firmware L708/4.22 for the Compaq 12/24-GB DAT drive and firmware 
A708/6.11 for the Compaq 4/8-GB DAT corrects the following condition:

A loss of proper SCSI bus communications due to internal device reset
that could occur if a "forced eject" is performed on the DAT drive.  

A forced eject can occur when the tape drive is busy and any of the 
following events occur:

- The Eject button is pressed and then within 5 minutes is pressed 
  momentarily two more times.

- The Eject button is pressed momentarily three times in a 5-minute 
  period.

- The Eject button is pressed once for at least 5 seconds.

Firmware 3.05 for the Compaq 4/8-GB DDS2 DAT (SDT7000) enhances the 
ability to read tapes created on other DDS2 tape drives.

The new firmware for the Compaq DLT products contain a number of 
performance enhancements and reduce the occurance of dropped leaders.

This version of Tape Options RomPaq includes support for:

- Compaq 35/70-GB DLT drive
- Compaq 35/70-GB DLT library drive
- Compaq DLT Library Model 3570-1 and 3570-2 controllers
- Compaq 20/40-GB DLT library drive
- Compaq DLT Library Model 2040-1 and 2040-2 controllers

To obtain the latestest firmware for other Compaq tape devices, download
the latest Option ROMPaq Firmware Upgrade utility from Compaq's Website,
SoftPaq SP8050.



HOW TO USE:

1. Obtain three (3) formatted 1.44-MB diskette.

2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change 
to that directory.  The file that is downloaded is an executable with 
a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above.

3. From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file 
and follow the on-screen instructions.  You will be prompted to 
insert a formatted diskette in a drive to create the diskette.

4. After all diskettes have been created, you may delete the  
SoftPaq file downloaded in step 2.

5. The Tape Options ROMPaq diskettes are self-booting diskettes.
Place the ROMPaq diskette into your drive A: diskette drive and
power cycle your system to begin updating the appropriate components.
