DESCRIPTION: This update fixes a Windows 98 Second Edition issue that may cause
a Presario PC to lock up when the system attempts to enter Sleep mode. You may apply
this SoftPaq before or after you upgrade to Windows 98 Second Edition, and it will
prevent this issue. The update patches the WINDIR value in the system registry,
changing it from "c:\windows" to "C:\WINDOWS" so that Windows 98 Second Edition will
interpret it correctly.
The update is not needed on Presario models that come with Windows 98 Second Edition
preinstalled. To determine whether the installed Windows 98 operating system is the
second edition, either use the right mouse button to right-click the My Computer icon
and then choose the Properties tab or click My Computer/Control Panel/System.
If no version of Windows 98 is listed, it is the first edition.
HOW TO USE:
1. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive.
The file downloaded is a self-extracting executable with a filename
based on the SoftPaq Number above. It will automatically install
the fix on your PC.
2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.
Click on "Yes" to confirm that you want to install the fix.
3. Read the Licensing Agreement and click on "I Agree".
4. Read the reboot warning and click on "OK", and installation will
begin.
5. The PC will reboot and configure the driver settings, and the
installation will ask to reboot the PC again. Click "OK" to finish
the installation.
6. After the update has been installed, you may delete the self-extracting
file downloaded in step 1.
