Softpaq Solution: SP1085
Filename: PENTFPU.EXE
Title: Japanese Utility for DOS/V and the Intel Pentium FPU
Version: 1.00 Rev A
Language: Japanese
______________________________________________________________________

CATEGORY: Software Solution / Miscellaneous

EFFECTIVITY DATE: 1-10-94

PRODUCTS AFFECTED: Any Compaq products containing Intel Pentium processor with faulty Floating Point Unit (FPU)

OPERATING SYSTEM: MS-DOS 5.0/V or greater

SYSTEM CONFIGURATION: N/A

SUPERCEDES: None

DESCRIPTION: This Softpaq is for Japanese products. This software lets you disable the floating point co-processor (FPU) of an Intel Pentium under MS-DOS/V. Because the FPU cannot be completely disabled, this software is not a foolproof solution. However, most commercial software will behave as if there were no co-processor installed. This gives you the choice to sacrifice some performance for protection from the Pentium flaw.

The software consists of a driver, an installation utility, and an enable/disable program.

HOW TO USE:

1. After downloading the SoftPaq, copy it to an empty directory on your hard drive and change to that directory. If downloaded in zipped format (.ZIP), unzip the file to create an executable: PKUNZIP SP1085

2. From that drive and directory, execute the SoftPaq file to unbind the primary files: SP1085 [ENTER]
The following files should be created:

P5RDME.TXT
P5PATCH.SYS
INSTALL.EXE
PENTFPU.EXE

3. To install and use the software, refer to P5RDME.TXT (Japanese).
