HOW TO USE:

Architecture of Compaq Management Agents - Release 3.86 and above
-----------------------------------------------------------------

The release 3.86 and above of the Compaq Management Agents for Servers
adopts a new architecture. Under the new architecture, the Compaq Management
Agents for Servers are identifiable and installable as four components -
namely the Compaq Foundation Agent, the Compaq Server Agent, Compaq Storage
Agent and the Compaq NIC Agent. The Compaq Management Agents for Servers for
Windows NT have two additional components - Compaq NT Management and Compaq
Agent Event Notifier

Under the new architecture, for post 3.86 releases, users have the choice to
update individual pieces for new functionality, and need not update the
entire agent. For example, if the user decided to add a new Storage
subsystem to a server, only the Compaq Storage Agent component needs to be
updated on the server. This architecture also positions Compaq to better
address customer needs by delivering new agent functionality independent
of hardware releases and expedite hardware releases by adding management
support independent of each other.

Compaq Foundation Agent - The Compaq Foundation Agent collects information
for the host server, including clustering, software version, and external
MIB status. It also provides threshold support and SNMP alerts.

Compaq Server Agent - The Compaq Server Agent collects and displays
configuration information on the system and the Remote Insight Board. It
also provides SNMP alerts

Compaq Storage Agent - The Compaq Storage Agent displays information on
the Mass Storage Subsystems configured on the system being viewed. The
agent collects information from fibre channel, drive array, SCSI, and IDE
subsystems. It also provides SNMP alerts.

Compaq NIC Agent - The Compaq NIC Agent displays information on logical
Compaq Network Interface Controllers (NICs) that are configured on the
system being viewed.

1. On a non-Unix computer, download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard
drive and change to that directory. The file that is downloaded is a
self-extracting executable with a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above.

2. From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file
and follow the on-screen instructions to unpack the files.
The number of files to be created and total file size is displayed.
You will be given the chance to specify the target directory for
the files, or default to the download directory.
The following files will be extracted,
	AGENTS._01
	SP10565.TXT
	QRST5.EXE

3. After the files have been created, you may delete the
self-extracting file downloaded in step 1.

installable image of the agents.

5. Login as 'root' on the SCO Server.
