DESCRIPTION:

This Softpaq contains an updated Version Control Database (VCDB), that
is used by two Compaq device management applications: (1) Compaq
Insight Manager for Windows, version 3.0 and higher (2) Compaq Insight
Manager XE 2.0 and higher (Web based product).  The VCDB is comprised
of approximately 30 files. This Softpaq also provides an installation
process that will automatically detect your current Insight Manager
product type and replace your current VCDB files with the new updated
set.

Insight Manager version 3.0 or later uses the VCDB files to list the
latest drivers and firmware available from Compaq and to note the
changes made to each revision.  Compaq Insight Manager versions 3.x and
4.x, available in Compaq SmartStart 3.x and 4.x, also allow you to
update your local VCDB through an Internet connection or from a 
diskette/CD.

Insight Manager XE version 2.0 or later uses the VCDB files to list the
latest drivers and firmware available from Compaq and to note the
changes made to each revision.  Compaq Insight Manager XE version 2.x
and higher also allows you to update your local VCDB through an 
Internet connection.

HOW TO USE (Automatic installation for both products):
------------------------------------------------------

1. Download the SoftPaq file to an empty directory on your hard drive
and change to that directory.  The file that is downloaded is
SP0965.EXE and is a self-extracting file.

2. From that drive and directory, execute the SoftPaq file:  
   SP0965 [ENTER]

   The resultant files will consume about 2.5 MB of hard drive space.
   Approximately 30 files make up the VCDB, including:
   PKGHIST.DB_  . . . SP0965.TXT

3. After the files have been extracted, you may delete the 
   self-extracting executable file (SP0965.EXE) that was downloaded in
   step 1.

4. To automatically install the Version Control DataBase files, run
   the INSTALL.BAT and follow any on-screen instructions.
   
   Note that if you are updating the VCDB files for Compaq Insight 
   Manager (the Windows application), you must first terminate the 
   application before running the INSTALL batchfile.  You do not need 
   to terminate Insight Manager XE if you are updating the VCDB for 
   that product.

   Note that the installation batchfile will automatically update the 
   VCDB files for either of the Insight Manager products previously 
   mentioned.  INSTALL.BAT will (1) determine if either or both 
   products reside on the local machine (2) determine if the target 
   VCDB directory is present (3) copy the new updated VCDB files to 
   the correct directory (4) display a screen status report upon 
   completion of the install process.

5. After a successful installation, you may delete the VCDB files that 
   were unpacked in step 2 - if you wish.


HOW TO USE (Manual installation for Insight Manager for Windows):
-----------------------------------------------------------------

1. Download the SoftPaq file to an empty directory on your hard drive 
   and change to that directory.  The file that is downloaded is 
   SP0965.EXE and is a self-extracting file.

2. From that drive and directory, execute the SoftPaq file:  
   SP0965 [ENTER]

   The resultant files will consume about 2.5 MB of hard drive space.
   Approximately 30 files make up the VCDB, including:
   PKGHIST.DB_  . . . SP0965.TXT

3. After the files have been extracted, you may delete the 
   self-extracting executable file (SP0965.EXE) that was downloaded 
   in step 1.

4. To manually update the Version Control DataBase files for Compaq 
   Insight Manager 3.00 or later, follow the procedure below:

   a) Select the Version Control menu from the Insight Manager main 
      menubar.

   b) Select Update Version Control Database from the CD/Diskette 
      menuitem.

   c) Change to the drive/directory containing the new database files 
      that were just extracted and follow the instructions on the 
      screen to update the database.
