	with an external keyboard attached.

_______________________________________________________________________

CATEGORY: TSR

EFFECTIVITY DATE:

PRODUCTS AFFECTED: All Conturas,and LTEs

OPERATING SYSTEM: MS-DOS 5.0 or greater

SYSTEM CONFIGURATION: LTE or Contura with external keyboard attached.

DESCRIPTION: QL_FIX.COM is a TSR which detects the release of
QuickLock and sends all four possible break codes for the Left
CTRL, Left ALT, Right CTRL, and Right ALT keys.

Problem details as follows:
Intermittently one or more of the forementioned break codes is not seen
by the system. It doesn't appear to be sent by the 8051. Therefore, BDA
locations 40:17, 40:18,and 40:96 do not always get updated properly and
the symptoms described above are seen.

NOTE: This problem appears to be a Compaq specific problem.

HOW TO USE:

1. Obtain a formatted 1.44 MB diskette.

2. If SoftPaq obtained on diskette, copy the SoftPaq file to a temporary
directory on the hard drive and go to that directory:

     MD C:\CPQ
     COPY A:\SP0955 C:\CPQ
     C:
     CD \CPQ

If SoftPaq downloaded from BBS, go to the directory where downloaded
   to:
      C: CD \CPQ

3. From that drive and directory, run the SoftPaq utility to unbind the
primary files. SP0955 (and press ENTER). The following files should
   be created:

     QRST.EXE README.TXT

4. Create the diskette image by running this command at the DOS prompt:

     QRST (and press ENTER)

5. The "Choose the Transfer Type..." prompt appears. Choose the high-
lighted, default selection "All diskettes in the Set" by pressing
   ENTER.

6. Next the "You will need to have the specified number of each type(s)
of pre-formatted media..." prompt appears. It is asking for one 1.44
   MB diskette.

Verify that you have a DOS formatted 1.44MB diskette and press the ENTER
key to accept and continue.

IMPORTANT: Only a 1.44 MB diskette formatted as such can be used, other
types of media cannot be substituted.

7. The "Create diskette number one, insert a 1.44 MB diskette into drive
[A] or [B]" prompt is given. (Either A or B will be included in the
prompt, depending on where your 3.5 inch diskette drive is located.

If the drive shown in the prompt is not the one you wish to use, change
the value by pressing either A or B.

At this point, you can optionally print a label (if your printer is
attached) by pressing F5.

Verify that the ROM family and date displayed on the screen for the sample
label is the same as on the header for this document. If not correct,
press ESC to abort program.

To begin diskette creation, press ENTER.

8. A counter box will be displayed during creation showing status. The
number of cylinders will count up to 80.

9. When QRST has completed, it will exit back to DOS with the message:

     "QRST: Transfer Completed"

10. At this point, the Driver Support diskette has been created and is
    ready to use.

11. Please read all READMEs before installing this new driver.

12. Copy the program QL_FIX.COM from the distribution diskette to
any directory desired. You may then execute QL_FIX.COM from
a DOS command prompt or from within your autoexec.bat. This is
a TSR do not execute under Windows. Problem was never reproduced
under Windows Environment. Therefore, solution is for DOS only.
