                     Compaq Integrated-L driver (PCNTN3.SYS)
                                   Update

Introduction:

Systems (DeskPro/XL) with the Compaq Integrated NetFlex-L Controller driver
installed may exhibit hangs and/or network stoppages. This is due to a
problem that requires the network driver to reset the adapter. Drivers from
previous Compaq Support Software Diskettes did not contain this fix.

System Requirements:

   1. DeskPro/XL system.
   2. Windows NT 3.1 must be installed with the Compaq Integrated NetFlex-L
      Controller driver (pcntn3.sys) already installed.

Who Should Use:

Users experiencing intermittent system and/or network hangs up using the
Compaq Integrated NetFlex-L Controller driver in a DeskPro/XL.

How To Install:

The COPYIT batch file will replace the installed PCNTN3.SYS Windows NT driver
with the PCNTN3.SYS driver on this diskette. To install, do the following:

    1) Make the floppy drive where SP0796 is inserted the current drive.
        (i.e. type "A:")

If SP0796 has been copied to hard disk, ensure that path is the
        current drive and path.

    2) Issue the command:

                "COPYIT [Windows NT root directory]"

where "Windows NT root directory" is the installation root path for
        Windows NT (i.e. C:\WINNT).

    3) When the batch file successfully completes, your system must be
rebooted for the new driver to take effect.
